Almost 3,000 downloads of this pack. Glad people still dig (another 100 just last week).
I am playing around with a couple ideas for a follow-up pack.....

I still use this on the regular even though I've got my own folder full of vinyl noises. How did you record these?Mad EP wrote:Almost 3,000 downloads of this pack. Glad people still dig (another 100 just last week).

Signal path:
Turntable > Stereo Amp > External Soundcard > Ableton
.. I just piled up a stack of like 50 records to get all sorts of different types of noises (newer records vs older records, clean records vs dusty records, etc etc).
I might do a Part 2 to the vinyl noises as well as a totally new Sample Pack.

Right on. Just curious if they were pretty raw or not. Seemed like it to my ear. I'm always up for digging through more samples myself ;p
EDIT: Care to share your thoughts on the other new sample pack idea?

Yeah, I thought about processing them... but it seemed a slippery slope. I might play with some processing for Part 2.
As for the new pack... I have to play with it first to see if it works. Nothing worse than announcing an idea, and then finding out it sucks. haha.

Re: Vinyl Noises (FREE DOWNLOAD)
^good point, lol.
And I agree about processing w/ the vinyl noises...what would you do with them? I guess a little journey through a colorful pre-amp wouldn't hurt, but other than that...
Personally I prefer them raw. I can do all the processing I want myself.

Re: Vinyl Noises (FREE DOWNLOAD)
I used one of the samples in my submission for the last 48 hr contest.
Also, I've been wondering: What's the best way to use these with something else to make it sound like it was actually sampled from vinyl? I've thought of putting them on a send track and compressing them together, filtering together(also want to make it sound kinda old and decrepit), but it didn't really sound that great and the vinyl noise just disappeared in the mix beneath crash cymbals.

Maybe work on the track's audio. By the time records have popping and crackle that's blatantly audible on small setups, they're pretty old.Artie Fufkin wrote:I used one of the samples in my submission for the last 48 hr contest.

Have you ever listened to music on vinyl? that'd be a good place to start.
Try this for starters (since it's a digitalized version of analogue sound, which is essentially what you're going for).
