"Brostep" Sub-bass
I'm talking about the real low basses around 0-300hz. As far as I know there are 3 possible ways to do this:
1 - Lowcut on the higher frequency basses + sine wave
2 - Lowcut on the higher frequency basses + 808 Kick
3 - Don't lowcut on the higher frequency basses
What's the best way to do it?
I saw seamless doing it the 3rd way, however I always felt like 1 and 2 give you a cleaner sound especially if you mess with the higher frequencys a lot. I wonder how artists like Excison or Skrillex do this.

dude just pure sinewaves and E4 key or something its not complicated, and if you are going to compress it use a soft knee so you wont effect the waves shape drasticly, sine waves are the most powerfull for sub basses , and sub never goes up to 300 unless your reffering to its harmonics wich are not really needed imo you get that from the synth and layering

Re: "Brostep" Sub-bass
I highpass my midrange at about 80-100 and just layer a sine wave underneath with whatever automation the midrange has. Sine waves are pure sub power, so I usually don't touch it, maybe I compress it a tiny bit, but never much. C:Cyren wrote:I'm talking about the real low basses around 0-300hz. Re: "Brostep" Sub-bass
You of course want to hi-pass the mid-range basses and everything else. Either option 1 or 2 depending on what kind of bass sound you want. Real low basses should be like 35 - 60 hz
Re: "Brostep" Sub-bass
sub bass should really only occupy up to about 50hz, give or take. my sub is usually a pure sine with a volume envelope (to lop off some clicky attack and give it a bit of release), there's no harmonics other than the fundamental so no EQ needed. I do however compress it a little, so I can sidechain it to my kick, which helps bring out the sub of the kick. Definitely high pass your mid synths, it helps not only to bring out the sub but also the kick.

Re: "Brostep" Sub-bass
For Sub-Basses I usually use a simple Sine Wave, no need to over think it. A hint of compression and maybe a slight sidechain to the kick to reduce interference also goes along way

Bonk.
