Really? I thought it was complete shit. style over substance.

What did you get from it?

the closeups on phoenix's face were pretty powerful, but thats not enough for a whole film.
There wasnt really a point to anything and nothing really happened. it looked good but that was about it for me.

Same, basically. I wanted it to be good. Good cinematography, good acting, pretty garbage story.

I really enjoyed the master, it´s true that the story could had a better ending but just seeing Phoenix, hoffman and anderson quality is enough for being a top film!

Yeah I really liked The Master too actually...

Watched Heat yesterday.

Been such a long time since I had last seen it I forgot how great it was.

Also watched Mean Streets for the first time this week. Must say that it lived up to my high expectations. Really liked it.

whaaa I loved the story haha. Great dynamic between hoffman and phoenix, two opposites with wills of their own, but one of them believing he should control while the other wants to be controlled because of his fears and simplicity. shows things like religion in its truest perspective imo. And I love the way it ends, phoenix goes from recalling to imagining things, ending up with him fuckin off on that motorcycle cos hes now his own Master :h:

by the end I was also starting to suspect that there was almost a gay undertone between them as well. like by the end, when hes singing about going on a boat to china and shit lol

I think it is one of those movies that will divide opinions though, cos its one of those things where there's no set story or aim as such; so everyone just takes it differently really. I was like this with Drive, everyone thought that was amazing but I think its over-rated lol

I still haven't got round to seeing Drive and I just saw there was a sequel/followup coming out. It definitely got a lot of love around here on release..

Film of the year so far for me. Simply stunning. Possibly the best film I've seen in years.

I still stand by this statement.

i thought that people in here would consider it pretentious. i really liked the action parts, the first scene of the stadium and the persecution of the crazy spin are by far the best car scenes i´ve seen! plus the mask, i fucking love that mask. the parts of 80´s music and romantic stuff were a bit excessive imo. 8.5/10

has someone seen the Pusher trilogy by the same director??
