Word. I'm kind of used to them cuz I listen to a lot of hard dnb, but sometimes the snares sound more than kicks than kicks do.

I'll never do that with my own tunes, though. Fuck that.

This. Can't stand it, very annoying. Huge petpeeve of mine.

Sending your reverb return track back to itself. Find the sweet post where it only need a little bit to feedback.. Then sweep with an eq, enjoy !

Or just sending your return track back to itself.. Put any effect on it you like. Experiment! Also pretty amazing

Ableton's follow actions.. Pretty cool!

Taking a percussion loop (or another loop) quantize it whatever setting you like.. Put Ableton's warp modus on re-pitch!

Use the compressor preset precise to sidechain everything to your lovely four to the floor kickdrum!

And enjoy this fantastic facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/vinyldom/ It's like AMAZING

I love everything about the way my drums sound except for my snares. And that's the one thing that can ruin the whole drums.

I refuse to do it as well. I'm tired of tunes where everything has to be sidechained to everything because every sound takes up 2/3 of the freq spectrum. TBH, I don't even listen to any dance music anymore or go out to nights because of this. In general, everything has become a wall of sound and I'd like to be able to hear well enough to make music into my old age.

Besides...it's all a bunch of twats on mac books plugging into the sound system from their headphone out and mashing shite tunes together with zero finesse. I don't know why anyone is even arsed about dance music these days it's homogenized to the point of being utterly boring.

Yep, if there was much going on in those tunes I get it, but usually it's just drums + bass + leads (can't forget about the extreme white noise risers though!). But I literally feel like I'm being thrown around in a centrifuge when every second, a different sound has to take center stage in the mix before the next one does.

I wish there was a button on my keyboard that could pause and play Ableton. If anyone's got a Mac and uses the buttons that pauses and plays itunes, you know what I'm talking about. Anyone know if you can map one to Ableton? Basically I want this so that I can pause and play Ableton while I am on the internet or something like that.

What's wrong with just switching windows back to Live and pressing the space bar and goin back to the browser really quick? You can also make a hot point on one of your monitor's corners so when you scroll your cursor up to the top left corner of the screen, all the windows seperate and then you click on the one you want.

Or you can midi assign the play / stop buttons to a piece of hardware you have so you don't need to switch.

yeah don't have much hardware besides a simple midi keyboard that only has keys, pitch bend, and modwheel. doubt you can do it with that. I do have the corner things on my mac and that is how I switch between apps. i currently do switch back to live and hit the space bar. but it would be nice to be able to click a single key. i mean, why would they make that key for itunes if it wasn't useful?

You have a point.

http://www.amazon.com/Korg-nanoPAD2-Sli ... _pr_sims_t

Check out one of these^ Simple little midi controller for ~60$.
It's got mixed reviews but the price is low and it will come in handy when you decide there are other parameters you want to midi assign.

You could probably also score something like a launchpad for cheap on ebay or something. I've had mine for roughly three years and while now all I use it for is a drum pad, it has some cool features.

Or just use a key from the midi keyboard he already has.. Assign one of the keys via the midi tab to the play button, one to the stop button. Go to preferences ->File/folder -> Save current set as default -> save
Now everytime your midi keyboard is connected, the assigned buttons wil do the play/stop thing!

But... It's pretty dumb! If you're using a ableton, I assume you are producing, not just listening to music.. If you don't want sound for a minute, and you refuse to hit the space button, just push the 'no sound' button on your mac.
If you want to listen to something on the internet, go back and push space.. It really doesn't take so much time

Yes it's not the end of the world if I don't have a button that pauses ableton when I'm using another app, but it would be convenient. Just like the button that every mac user has that pauses itunes when you are using other apps is very convenient. pushing "no sound" would not help, because I would typically want to pause ableton if I am listening to songs on itunes or watching a youtube tutorial. I often listen to songs on itunes when I am using Ableton if I am trying to recreate something from another song (playing the same 3 seconds over and over....) or I am listening to an exported version of the song I am currently working on in Ableton.

It's not like I can't produce without it (because I have done so up till now), but it would save some time here and there and it adds up.

Just get something like Bome Midi Translator and assign a key combination to trigger a midi event.

I find producing electronic music really unpleasant now. Sitting still and trying to produce something on a computer is really annoying me, because I know at heart I'm not inspired to do so.

So instead I've gone back to playing instruments for an indefinite period of time, and I'll probably try to produce something completely different after this period is over.

Are there any FB pages that update you with major DAW/plugin related sales?

how have they made the vocals stand out so much but kept them sounding soft? is it just ridiculously careful EQing?

Happens to me all the time. It's too easy to get burnt out on producing one type if music. More recently I've tried making a cinimatic style tune. Sounds shit, but at least it was fun to try.
