EQing a Sample
Looking for a bit of advice on EQing samples chopped from vinyl. I've managed to sample a loop and put together some vocal chops, but I'm finding it difficult to get that clean sound that Fat Boy Slim and Moloko get when they use samples on their tracks. I know they have professional engineers, but I'd still like to be able to mix the samples correctly with the track. These samples have drums on them, which I've EQ'ed out as best as possible.
Any advice on doing this? Here's the two different tracks. The first one is more House and contains the loop and vocals, the second one is House and Bass and contains just the vocal.

Any tips on EQing? I heard a Moloko track where he managed to EQ the bass, and the midrange so they stand out in the sample, but still keep the drums etc from the sample hidden. Or are they layering a bass ontop of the sample aswell? Kinda new to this kind of sampling in dance music.

Re: EQing a Sample
I think you have EQd out too much bass so it sounds too thin. Instead of fully EQing out the drums try chopping the samples so there are no drums or layer the so your drums hit at the same time then lightly sidechain to a drum bus of the layered drums

@Brothulhu I was speaking to a french house producer yesterday who said those producers in that genre use the sidechain heavily to make the sample fit on the beats, so what you said makes sense. Going to give that a shot. I agree with you. It's lost a lot of it's character. I'll try removing the EQ and using the sidechain technique.
