These bass sounds have me really stumped. I'm talking about the LFO basses that coki, jakes, etc use. They sound very inharmonic, twisted, etc, almost like they're coming through a weird flute. I can't really explain it. They sound pretty wet to me (decent amount of resonance?). I've tried making them in my basic subtractive synth with saws, sines, and triangles, and I've also tried using massive, but haven't really come anywhere close. I don't know what direction to go in for these. Please help.
inharmonic bass sounds?
Re: inharmonic bass sounds?
That DMZ tune is purely Reason, sounds a lot like the Stagga synth but without the modulation.
It's done inside Subtractor.
I found this tutorial so you could maybe get a bit closer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31ws6_Rnu90

Re: inharmonic bass sounds?
that's a great tutorial. if only I had reason
. I tried following along in my synth but got stuck at his use of "waveform 24". if anyone could do a rough translation of how this works in another basic subtractive synth, that would be sick. the only waveforms I've got to work with are sine, triangle, saw, tri-saw, square, q-pulse, and h-pulse. also if anyone could translate what the scream damage control, P1, and P2 do, that would also be sick.

Re: inharmonic bass sounds?
i think you can get similar stuff pretty quick in massive... here's a starting point at least:
pull a square wave down 2 octaves (-24) -> turn on mod osc -> pull it up to 5.00 ->click the ring mod for osc 1 -> turn its knob to a med/high amount -turn fx1 to a dimension expander with pretty high setting ->turn fx2 to a short delay or reverb ->turn on a low pass filter and modulate the cut off where ever it sounds the best.
some notes sound better than others this way..so play up and down the keyboard to find the sweet spot
..also add a sub
