Apc40(Ableton) VS all other methods of DJing?

So I started producing first then realized that I need to pick up Djing,mixing,mashups
Most of the Dj's in my area that do bars etc.. all use CDJ
I want to get started but I use only the apc40 and ableton.

Why do most DJ's use only CDJ's, In my opinion it seems like you have more freedom using ableton and the apc40?
But CDJ's look cool and appealing like a real DJ.
I guess I never really used CDJ's but do they even use CD's? or just a harddrive

Is it easier to mix with CDJ's vs using APC40?

I'm new to all of the mixing scene latley Iv'e been having trouble starting out my mixes
