New to Djing?.Source can I use to stay on top with music?

Post by Rufio310 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 5:28 pm

Latley I've been using beatport top 2012/2013 for my mixes but when I lisetn to other DJ's like DJ Blend or any other good Dj's and i hear their mixes and I tell myself "Wow what song is this"? Or sometimes I will be at the club or bar and hear a good song and want to use it in my mix but i have no idea what song it is.
How do you guys keep on top of your game when it comes to music, I want to know every good song to use instead of using pandora or beatport top etc.

Advice?

And I noticed when using beatport tops that its easier to blend them in with each other but because it seems like the production is all similar but yeah there are some songs that just dont blend well.

Or do you guys fix that when your done with your mix and some what mix and master a mix?

There's no one right answer, but some good serial mix shows can help.

I'm a big fan of Ninjatune's Solid Steel show and the Buschfunk radio show from Germany. For example, the set list from the last Buschfunk show was fantastic and all over the place:

I usually just DJ what i listen to. I'll go to what.cd and download their latest release. I do all of my shit online for people who probably haven't heard of a single lick of what i'm playing so it works.

You really just have to be in the know of new releases I guess.

I check Chemical and Red Eye for new releases. Better quality control on there than Beatport I'd say.
For upcoming tunes I listen to radio shows / podcasts, read this forum, go out to raves etc
