I checked out Reckless' podcasts and I like this style. A lot of energy.
I was wondering if there is any distinction between Bassline and Niche. Are they just synonyms for the the same thing or is there something distincly different about the two?
I remember a few years ago thinking that Grime and Dubstep were synonyms... boy was I ever wrong on that.
Also, does anyone know of any other Bassline/Niche radio shows to listen/download?
Yes they are basically synonyms. In the way that 'garage' and 'house' music stemmed from clubs that played a specific type of music, Niche has become a sort of music - Northern speed garage/bassline house. You can argue that Niche maybe has slightly more specific sonic signifiers like an insistent whiney bass, but they are 98% the same.
Agent X - The Official Agent X Mix CD is worth checking,
For a long time i was looking for this kind of music. I knew it was known as 4x4 garage and knew Sticky was producing this kind of genre.
When my friend from Notts visited me in Holland she kept talking about Niche, a new hype in the UK.
When i searched the internet for 'Niche' i bumped into DJ Q & Apostle. Its was exactly what i was looking for! She said Jamie Duggan is one of the main pioneers of Niche, which is exactly the same as Q and Apostle.
So for me, its all the same; Niche & 4x4. I think Bassline house is a more general synonym for Niche or 4x4. Cause in the end, it all sounds the same!
If your ever in Leeds check out Fresh 95.6 FM, on a weeknight they have the niceness boys. Unbelievably cheesy bassline/speed garage. I usually switch off and wait for the roots reggae show.

it started in sheffield and its slowly spreading, i live in notts its not that big, dubsteps taken off though lots of raves in woods with techno and dubstep! its sick (-:
re: sheff radio stations, none that i know of that got landrovers playlisted. but www.sheffieldlive.org got a weekly ip-op show wednesdays 10pm till 2-3-4-5 whenever AM.
niche aint allowed to be put on any flyers apparently, its basslinehouse now, i think
"Our guest will arrive at some point, depends what time The Bill finishes."
A guy i work with keeps bringing me in the latest bassline cd's.Not sure if i like it or not.Gets a bit cheesey but i think i could rave to it.Been rocking the latest Jamie Duggan mix in my car and i received a gunfinger salute from some random rudeboy today.I is officially down with the streets.
