it's less to do with capital fm - which i don't know, not being english - than the rest of the list. how they went from being in t williams' rinse cd to being between the likes of adele and justin bieber in a few months is :corntard:

And where Skrillz or Flux can't don't really get people into proper dubstep, their tunes can plausibly be gateway drugs to more hardcore house music. The core sensibility is there.

This is shit is wack as fuck though. I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise given how they talk about DJing, rave culture etc. They basically don't care. I see these guys having a stupid live show in at most 3 years.
they do have a stupid live show?

It's a win/win situation. Get mad cash, invest it back into gear, concerts and records. You wouldn't get as much cred, but no one older than 15 should care about that.

Oh definitely

I got booked last year to play for usual fee and the system was shit...no sub

I was annoyed and played my set

my usual fee is probably 1% of what they got

if you'd asked me 10 years ago maybe the answer would have been different...

They wouldn't ask a tru head to play either

EDIT - you could do an orbital like they did on totp

i don't think anyones denying that they'd take that offer, but i think its more that people are disappointed that this is what we've come to as an industry and society. its also almost offensive that they're not even trying to hide it from us anymore.

i was reading a book last night, specifically a chapter written by the guitarist from Toto, talking about the decline in of musicianship. his points were that "we've" sacrificed a lot of a lot of things that used to make music great, just so the corporations can have their flavor of the year and so that artist can experience that disposable rockstar mentality, rather than being a lifelong professional musician. part of his whole argument is that we now rely on that crutch of "having the perfect performance" (whether that is using protools/autotune to adjust a chord on a guitar track instead of doing the take over, or in this case, a pre-recorded mix) in order to make money and save face...when in reality, the imperfection and dynamics of a performance are what really make it memorable and special. as spectators, do you really care when a DJ fucks up? no. you care when they fuck up and can't bring themselves out of it. you feel cheated for paying for that experience. however, you gain a new found respect for them if they can pull themselves out of it and come back twice as hard for the next track. everyone on this planet can recognize and respect real soul and talent when it is shown to them, regardless of their background. the problem with artists pulling stunts like this is that it pulls the veil over the crowds eyes, and skews the definitions...

i'm sure disclosure can actually mix. we all know its not that hard. their music isn't my taste, but it isn't horrendous, and i'm sure they spent a lot of time honing their craft. considering this is for a large radio corporation, at this point in time, bullshit like this is to be expected. but that doesn't make it any sort of right.
