init if your playing one set a week that's a 6 figure salary, i'd consider myself made if i was getting that lol
6 figures doesn't mean anywhere close to "made" in 2013, tbh. Comfortable, sure... but if I "made it" as an artist I'd want to be living a lot better than that. You can exist pretty gloriously in London on £100k, but equally you can barely afford a mortgage on a central 2 bed - 7 figures is really where you start living well AND stacking for the future.
im actually kinda surprised that you care about money this much
Why surprised? I'm a child of the Rap and Reaganomics generation; it's how we were raised! Where have you been living?

nB, I'm not an artist making 100k/year or even trying to be an artist making 100k/year, I'm an IT contractor; I was just pointing out that 100k isn't "made it" money in 2013.

I do care about money more than I thought I would when I was a kid though. It provides a security of existence that not many other things can match. I'm perfectly comfortable with the fact that I could be happy poor, but I'd much rather not be and I realise that there's a certain amount of choice to it - not absolute, there's also a lot of luck, but it is a big factor. I don't have qualifications, degrees or even particularly good A Levels, but through sheer f'ing hustle I've earned more in the occasional year than a lot of people I know pull in 5. Toys don't equal happiness, but money is the freedom to do what you want when you want and not have to live according to another man's rules; enough money can give you an existence with freedom only rivaled by going back to nature and money is the ONLY route to ever being able to retire early (THAT'S when the real freedom kicks in)... of course I care about money... I'd consider myself a bit of a fool if I didn't at least consider it when deciding how to spend my days!

So yeah, unless anyone else is confused; Magma says "GET MONEY MONEY, GET MONEY MONEY MONEY and be nice to each other whilst getting it."

That's the most libertarian thing I'll ever hear you say so I'm quoting it.

I don't consider the amount of money earnt as how "made it" people are, its how respected and known in the music industry they are.

If I could have a steady set of releases, and bookings and people after me for remixes and shit on reputable/big labels for the scene, then I would consider myself to have made it, I dont need to earn bare money to have made it lol.

Even still, I dont know how much money Disclosure earn, whether its over that 100k (it probably is) but you would consider them to have made it right? Does made it have to be being in the charts and and earning millions of quids?
