Nah exclusivity in itself attracts people, it isn't about the specs or anything

yes exclusive
but xbox one is easily replaced by;
pc/ps4/xbox 360/gamecube/any other gameconsole
hell I would buy a snes before I ever buy an xbox one in current condition

yes of course some ppl will buy it because of it being "xbox latest", you'll always have that

Well it seems like Microsoft are positioning the Xbone as a sort of complete "home media solution," not just a gaming console - and if that's what I wanted I would definitely consider getting it.
It honestly feels like this shit is getting blown way out of proportions. Yeah, some of the features are horrible - the 24 hour online check for example I can see becoming a problem for some.
But the gaming industry - many developers and publishers alike - have been complaining about not seeing profits from the used game market for years, and it seems like Microsoft finally tried to come up with a solution for them.
My sentiment is that I'd love for the developers to get some money from used game sales - so that they can continue making games that I like. It's just shameful that this idea MS is going ahead with is terribly inconvenient for the players and will probably ultimately push away a lot of potential customers.

The problem is they don't have a lot of exclusives that can justify or sustain their market with all the problems they're potentially facing and not handling all too well.
Hell they were paying companies to not show their titles on Sony at E3 to give a false sense of exclusivity.
The Halo & Fable audience only sells so much, and not too many parents are willing to shell out $500 on something that won't have good value for quite some time, same with the fanboys who are willing to look the other way at all the problems this console has.
I still think the 360 was a fluke honestly.
They seem to be following the same path they do with OS releases of a decent one then the follow up being completely shit.

maybe the game devs should start making good games instead of recycling the same formula but making it easier

my sentiment is; I'd love to get a new good game which I enjoy to play daily withouth commercial ideas fucking it over. No no game devs want to recycle so they can keep the cash flowing or add stupid shit like drm/auction houses etc

fuck these days I'd pay 100 easily for a game like diablo2, cs1.6, c&c, commandos, SOF, etc
COD10 000 or battlefield 5000bc yeaaaah no, played gears of war 3 recently and it was such a disappointment

Yeah, as far as I'm aware the only big Xbox exclusives are Titanfall and Quantum Break? (Plus Halo of course, but who knows when that is ready).

They definitely desperately need something that will set them apart from the, as of right now, superior PS4.

This has more to do with publishers wanting safe returns on their investments, same as in the film (and music) industry. Making games is a huge undertaking (although with the rise of indie gaming and more advanced developer tools this will likely change), and the publishers are (usually) only gonna post money into something they know will make them money back - hence the "+1" of today's blockbuster games where every new COD/BF/AC/FIFA/etc is essentially the same game with a few new features.
Just like Fast and Furious 6 is in theatres now - people want experiences that are familiar to them.

The thing is the Sony offers the same thing, as much as I don't care about the whole media thing, they also showed why they're a force to be reckoned with especially considering the Sony Pictures presentation they gave at E3 and hell the PS3 is the most used device for Netflix already.
Devs do want a chunk of used profits that's for sure, but they also don't want to be publicly seen getting in bed with Microsoft on this as it will earn the ire of quite a few of their consumers.
The thing is Microsoft is trying to offer a service like Steam without the things that make it good and the tradeoff many make when it comes to PC gaming, but also on the flip side people who choose not to use Steam have tons of alternatives, with consoles you don't get that which is what Microsoft doesn't seem to understand.
They also seem to be ignoring the news as well because people are becoming more wary of always connected devices and data sharing, so announcing a console which requires a daily internet check along with an audio visual device connected to it in order to operate, hell the price point could have probably been equal to the PS4 if they had chosen to make the Kinect an optional peripheral like the 360.
They're just making a bunch of really bad business decisions and putting their foot in their mouth PR wise.

Titanfall is coming out on PC as well iirc.
I forget what the spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon was that was exclusive, but that was the only thing shown that interested me.

hey I like xbox a lot too, I always play it when I'm with my brother in law, ever since xbox came out, but fuck them, just like they sort of said fuck you to me.

I know I know, EA etc but still, point stands if they want me to buy a game, make a game worthy of buying

It's broken on everything, I think Bethesda have yet to release a non buggy or broken title to date, but yea apparently the PS3 version has the most issues.
I honestly never understood the appeal of playing those titles on consoles when you get so much user content from mods on PC.

as someone who's never been massively into gaming, i always preferred playing games on consoles rather than pcs just cos i'd rather chill on a sofa or whatever and play rather than be hunched over my pc and play on a smaller monitor

mods seem cool n that tho

Hopefully the Steambox will kill off this delusion that PC gaming has to be done on in front of a monitor and can't be from the comfort of your couch while using a control, all consoles are at this point are PCs with a standardized hardware setup, like Macs.

This is definitely true, and it seems like Microsoft are catching ALL the flack for trying to do something that much of the industry has wanted to do for a while. The way they went about it and the PR was BAD, but now suddenly all the publishers are backing out and denying any involvement in "Microsoft's crazy scheme," even though I'd be willing to bet good money that they were the ones who pressured/lobbied MS to do something about it in the first place.

I'm not trying to defend Microsoft here, I completely agree with what you're saying, I just think it's a little hypocritical of the publishers... and the hate has just been exacerbated by the insanely bad PR handling by MS.

well ye obviously you could set up a pc next to your tv or whatever but that's long and awkward if you've only got one computer which you want to use for other shit

i haven't played any games on xbox or pc for years anyway, just thought i'd give my viewpoint on the console v pc thing as a lazy casual

It's about as long and awkward as setting up a console, or it's just the matter or running some cables to your TV especially with most peripherals being wireless you don't need to have your PC in the same room.
