Using Vocal Chants in songs!
Hey! I produce dubstep and i have a huge question! I downloaded a free sample pack off youtube and i used 2 vocal chants in a tune of mine. I do plan on selling it on beatport and itunes. Is there any legalities on the vocal chants? Can i get in trouble for using them? I dont want to break any laws what so ever! The samples were "What" and "Aye". I did pitch them down to fit better in my mix. I did contact the person who put the free sample pack up and he said it was royalty free but i want to know your thoughts because i cant stop stressing about it! Thanks!

You'll be fine, if you're really that scared about it just record yourself saying "what" and "aye" in as ruff of a voice as possible then go from there haha.

Re: Using Vocal Chants in songs!
Since its just a simple chant:
+I doubt any legal peeps would be able to even prosecute that, you could have gotten it from too many sources for a single party to declare it as theirs
+ you pitched it down too, that makes it even harder!
+ Most importantly, the uploader said they were royalty free!!!
Whenever you see royalty free it means that you may use the item however you choose, including in a way that generates profit for you/your company.
what are you waiting for? Upload it to beatport

You'll be 100% fine my friend
Re: Using Vocal Chants in songs!
If they're royalty free they're royalty free. Providing the guy who made the sample-pack actually owns the rights to them of course, and didn't just rip them off from someone elses tune or sample-pack.

Wouldn't it be the person who claimed they were royalty free who broke the copyright?

That's kinda what i was thinking! I asked him and he said they were royalty free so i printed that off and saved the chat just in case any thing happened! I did try recording my own but didn't sound as good! I have no idea what to do! Should i release the song for free with the label or sell it! I have not posted the song anywhere though!Brothulhu wrote:Wouldn't it be the person who claimed they were royalty free who broke the copyright?

You can download sample packs off of YouTube?!

If using royalty free samples is illegal, then I better start hiding somewhere
