i like that idea, but kinda hard :(
Hard as in you dont have hundreds of channels and sends or because you need audio outs on your interface and a mixing board?

Also, if you had a look around you could probably find some place to take your stems, pay for some studio time with which I'm sure you'd get an engineer. Sit with them and work on the mix. I'm sure you'd gain a lot of useful knowledge that way. Just be upfront about what you know and what you don't when you are working.

totally general statement...but I love how people around here piss away a hundred bucks here and there buying more and more software that's in all likelyhood getting them further away from there goals instead of saving it and spending it on something that might actually teach them something or get them thinking outside their normal mindset.

FWIW I'm a terrible gearwhore, but once I started investing in something besides yet another VST I actually started to learn something.

EDIT: Also, if you didn't live on the other side of the country I'd invite you over to try mixing on my modest setup :w:

Haha, thanks for the invite. Too bad I'm way out here. :Q:

Anyways, difficult in I don't have access to a mixing board. Probably wont for a while. But taking my stems someplace sounds like it could be a good idea. Even if the song itself isn't worth getting mastered, it might be worth it just to see how a pro mastering service would treat my track.

Yea man. I've been looking for places around where I am. In San Fran you should have tons of options I'd imagine. I wouldn't even take it to an ME. I don't know the term for it, but the guy that records/mixes the stems. But I'm sure an ME could help too.

I'm still not entirely over it, but I just figured that nothing is perfect, and my pursuit of that mythical perfection, is completely futile.

Now I see the imperfection in everything, and I just laugh and embrace it.

For instance, I see a girl with those half dimple like Robin Tunney, and I can't seem to not find it attractive. I hear a messy Skrillex growl bass thing -- that's completely inharmonic -- and I find it amazing. I just see the beauty in imperfection, I guess.

Even so, I still find Juke music to be utter shit -- just saying.
So how did you break out of that habit? Most of the times it's only my faders I do this with, but sometimes if I'm feeling super OCD ill start doing it with everything. EQ, comp, you name it. :corncry:

Could you get a midi controller like BCF2000 and mix with the screen turned off? A buddy of mine just got a used on eBay for like 125USD.

I got into dubstep ;D

I tried making Skrillexy growls with FM synthesis, and it was such a finnicky process that I ran into a wall with my desire to get a good sounding growl and also trying to keep all the mod levels even -- it just didn't work. At the end of the day, I got some good growls going, and that sense of pride and achievment of having achieved something I've been trying to do for months, just overrode that sense of trying to achieve perfection. Now I LOVE FILTH!

Hope you get over this OCD, and make some banging chunes, m8. :D
