If you're brave (meaning not easily intimidated by scary-looking interfaces,) I'd definitely say Sunvox first and foremost. It runs on every platform known to god (not really, but it's available for PC, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, PalmOS...) so you can work on stuff on your phone and then dump it into your desktop or whatever when you get home. It's got a tracker style interface, which most folks find completely un-musical - but it's powerful as fuck and super flexible.

Caustic, G-Stomper, Syntheon, MorphWiz, Jasuto are also all pretty well rated. I would definitely check out G-Stomper if I had an Android.

Couple links that might help...

Hmm, never had any issues with encoder output quality (in iOS): might be a hardware issue...?

I dont know, its just that I hate the whole connect-node concept(or what is it called?) but then again, its a 5/5 indeed.

iMachine!
Figure is a quite underrated app, it's more of a toy than a DAW but it's very inspiring. 99 cents!

Yeah, and the real estate on a mobile phone screen admittedly doesn't lend itself well to the node-stringing setup. You probably wouldn't like Jasuto either based on that.

Nonetheless, it can do things that pretty much no other mobile music platform can - sidechaining, for example - something I can't really do so easily in Nanostudio [yet].

@ bouncingfish - iMaschine is fun, although wish the sequence editing capabilities didn't suck so bad. Check out Yellofier if you like iMaschine for sure. Figure is definitely a lot of fun and a great way to kickstart ideas, although wish I could upload my own sounds...

New hope for you Android owners:

RD-4 Groovebox for Android

Granted, on iOS there's like a metric shit-ton of these already, but...

Nave is the tits. Just started fiddling with it the last few days. It is a deep synth, very impressed.

VST version's coming along shortly too.

Also, Thor (from Reason) is now available as a standalone synth for iPad. Both Nave & Thor are getting rave reviews.

WHAT, REALLY? :o
Totally buying this, thanks for telling me.
But I don't get it, Thor is just a synth! Have they added any DAW-like features so that you can ex. record melodies, or is it just the synth?

Its audiobus compatible. Which is kinda the defining standard of ios synths these days.

It also has some built in recorder that (from what i hear) is buggy as hell.

And its completely compatible with the full version of Thor, so you can load patches you make in ios to daw and vice versa.

Just picked up Thesys and its SICK. Setup was a breeze. All i had to do is connect it to my wifi connection and boom. Thats it. Super easy to use. And surprisingly low latency for using it over wifi. Even if i go adhoc it didnt make much of a difference.
