Haha for me it's the opposite, I could write melodies and chords all day long but arranging a tight drum pattern is really hard for me. Maybe it's cause I played melodic/harmonic instruments growing up instead of percussion...

^ hmm. I'm like guerrillawarfare. I think it's cause I'm a math person, and so I've always understood drums really well even though I've never been able to play them. It's very mathematical with the timing and ratios (eg 4 kicks/measure) and whatnot. But I can't play drums for shit. It's weird.

Download a pack of old breaks, stretch em to 70/140 bpm and place your drums over it, make some edits and you should have something good

Funny you say that, I literally have never used loops in a beat before until a few days ago when I downloaded a few sample packs and started playing around, came up with some really interesting stuff right away just by combining small bits from different loops. This and using various samples and 1-shots really helped make my drum pattern a lot more interesting, I wish I had experimented with this idea earlier.

I didn't say use loops, though I guess you could do that. Using old breaks adds swing and character to your drums, I'm guessing most loops in sample packs are more rigid and boring

yeah I suppose I shouldn't use the term "loops" to refer to all sampled drums... what I meant is I have always used individual hi-hats, toms, snares, etc instead of a beat that was sampled from somewhere else.

Inspiration can come from anywhere when doing intros.
Me personally I like using string's and pads to build atmosphere while using some poignant vocal sample to set the tone.

Old audio books or sample packs are my go to for vocals .

Dude really? OP you are not going to get a track done by posting each part individually until everyone tells you it's fine. You have ears, and you'll know if something you make sounds good or not. The fact of the matter is nothing you make right now is going to be even remotely worth listening to. That's just how it is.

Everyone starts at that point. The only difference is that by doing this you are going to suck publicly rather than privately. the problem with that is in public, especially on an anonymous forum, people aren't going to hold back on you. The only thing that's going to do is discourage you from continuing. At this stage you are probably going to do much more harm than you are good for yourself.

Take the Advice people have given you and put it to use. You know what kind of music you like and you know when something sounds good or bad. You'll know when you make something that sounds good. Until then, just keep working at it. That's the only way you will get better. And trust me, you'll know when you are getting better.
