@ Ocelots Revolve Production wise and mastering wise it was very sound and soild mix but the only thing i can complain about is that lead! Its way to repetitive :H: . For me the only interesting part my ears started to listen too was the half way point. You need to build stuff up with the lead, put a filter on that sucker and change some parameters and youll be good! Also make more of a melodic lead not a appreg 4 notes playing again and again. The growls where pretty sick but change some other notes around and maybe a little pitch bend and resample its frequencies in another track and use an Eq to take out bad sounds. Sounds a lot better after those little errr noies are gone. Thats it, but great track! Lol better than anything i put together really. But one thing not for you but everyone is that we need to be more musically smart. We have all these sounds at our will and play simple melodies or same 2 note growls. We need to as a community be learning more about music theory instead of our production skills. People like billy joel could make great tracks with just one piano so why cant we be able to with litteral every sound created at our fingers. Thats it for what i got to say :u:

Can't thank you enough for the well thought out feedback. Things like the point at which the listener gets tired of a melody are very important for someone who has been listening to that loop for hours on end. Link me to your soundcloud I will return the favor.

I love this little rant! Haha I couldn't agree more, however music theory is something I'm very confident about and I actually come to the forum hoping for technical advice. I am a complete newb when it comes to eqing, compressing, mixing, mastering. I post a track hoping someone could give me some advice on how to set everything in the mix well. I feel like I've yet to receive any actually feedback I can use. Sometimes I actually wonder if people are even really listening to the songs I post, I'll get feedback that's like "oh this is a cool idea". What the fuck am I supposed to get from that?

@RATCUB Your track sounds pretty ambient, which i like it! Theres a couple things you need to do same with the other guy^ make better transtion and change that single lead melody. Its a pretty cool little sound but change it up a bit. The white noise riser thing i guess you can call it is a little to loud imo and should bring down the levels and compress the crap out it to make it sound more solid. Its a great song very dark and ambient which is different and unique. I really dont know what to classify it as :o but still cool. Lastly work on mastering it and bringing out the sounds. Like the basses and wobbles just spend a good like hour or so on mastering and Eqing and compressing the track to get it solid and full sounding. Then just save the project and let it sit for a week or a couple days and listen to it again. You get sorta dead ear when listening to the same loop or sound over and over like the other guy said ^. I think the only way to get better is too practice like over and over and things get easier to do and hear like playing an instrument. Ive played guitar for some time now started when i was 9 and stopped and picked up again in these last couple years and i can honestley say doing the same chords and little nursery songs killed me... :twisted: but set up foundation. Now that im 16 i could play any song, not that great but i could play it. So i guess the same goes for producing just takes "years" of practice. i dont know why i write so much i could never write and get to the point ahha and hears my soundcloud. Its my first attempt well not really at a song and i think its horrible but im working on a drum and bass one write now and more satasfiyed with that one. Thanks

Thanks man, finally some real tangible feedback. I've been playing guitar my whole life too and that has been a huge help in making EDM. I really just need to practice setting the levels and making the sound more full like you said. I'm going to spend the week pumping all the elements up and adding some more melody. I'm on my phone now but I'm going to listen to your track at home and ill put feedback directly on your soundcloud.

@R3b

Dig a lot of your sounds. Like the drum samples, hats are pretty unique. Snare sounds a like it has a little too much high end not enough wood, but thats my personal taste. The space in-between the first kick and snare on the three needs something to fill that space besides just double time hats IMO. Even just a loud hat with a longer decay might do. Would appreciate some drum fills every once in a while. Musical loop on the drop feels like it needs lead vocals or lead synth line, otherwise your loop needs to be at least twice as long to stay interesting. Panning on the pads are a little too extreme. Vocal sample is good, kind of Danny Byrdish, I don't like this on the buildups though because it makes me feel like a sweet vocal hook or something is coming and it never shows. You need different risers, I've caught onto that one pitch riser sound. Would really like to hear some different sounds or melodies in the breakdown.

Thanks for the drum advice! This was just experimenting around a bit, i honestley started listen to Dnb like a couple days ago and download a sonic academy series on it and was very helpful basically copyed the song but did my own mastering instead and mixing. Ill change the riser ( imo was getting tred of that also) and lessen the pad thing a bit. The snare i eq the highs little to much.... but ill change it up some time next week after hearing it a million times! I need to look around for some good vocals for a song. Your soundcloud in your sig is crazy awesome! The only thing change a bit is try adding a lot more compression to make it more full and fat. Also at 2:35 the lead sound was crazy loud and unexpected. Maybe bring it down a little or fade it in smoother, i dont know how to explain it? What you do to make that lead? Also what daw are you using? Track sounds pretty professional id buy it! Could i download it off soundcloud if your not going to change anything with it?

@DankaBeats

Pretty good tacks and love the bass with each of them. I dont really like instrumentals type of music if thats what you call it? Sorry about that and the only thing im sorry to say i cant stand :u: is those risers! Its so over played and used its not funny anymore. Other than the risers you have good tracks and would sound pretty good on any PA or subs.

@dankabeats, interesting blend of genres. its like happy trap =D i like it.
your ideas are good. very well structured. if anything i would say just mess with more effects on things and get the mix a little more wet. either way sounds good.

@budspencerton,pretty cool tune. the vocals sound demonic hahaha. the beat is mean as well, it definitely has its vibe down. i did feel like its a bit bass heavy though, maybe mess with the mixdown some more.

@xtb, good melodic ideas on this one. im not too fond of the snare but it works. i think the part around 1:40 is a little cluttered, it seems loud.
like i said though good ear for melody mate, everything is fresh it just needs a little more work on the mix i think. :4:

here is my newest project guys, its dubstep with an exotic vibe to it.

Eyesic – heavy bass man! I like it. The melody is pretty cool too but I think it would sound fuller with more chords instead of just one note melodies. Also I would take a little bit of the highs off the drums cause they sound like they need to be de-essed if you know what I’m sayin… anyways I think it’s solid work so far.

Danka – I like your melodies and drums in the first one but it sounds a little hollow. Like you could fill it out with some pads or arps or something to really cover the whole sonic palette. Good start though it’s pretty groovy. Second track is more of my style, it’s pretty dope. I love that trumpet synth noise you got there. Nice one. Some of the other synths kinda sound like Lights by Ellie Goulding lol

R3b – Pretty lush intro. I like this track but it could use a little more rhythmic syncopation imo. Throw some percussion in there and make it groove harder. Then it would be a dope track. Also expand on your melodies… they are beautiful but I need more! Good work.

Here’s my electro house song Sharx…. Lot’s of dissonance but I like it like that. Let me know what yall think. Thanks :)

@ mtl6
Pretty dope track! Got an old deadmau5 fell to it :W:. All the synths are amazing besides the one at the end around 2:49, it just doesnt seem to fit in well. Like certain sounds go good together and that was like bleh thing. Its idk how to explain but too hallow and dank. The song was pretty upbeat and the bass in the intro fit perfected. Thats all but its a great track, id buy it! Lastly that guitar in the intro felt amazing in my headphones it was very well put and best sound in the tack :i: .

Could you like elaborate on the rhythmic syncopation and groove with the precessions? I dont really get what you mean by that sorry man. Also i saw you post on that thread with the bells remake, the one with cinema. Howd you make that? Is it alright if i could get that presets for that thanks!

sure i can elaborate... what i mean by syncopation is mostly adding ghost kick and snares to give it more of a funky rhythm. if you're already using ghost kicks/snares then maybe i would turn up the velocity a tiny tiny bit on them. but on second listen of your track, i can hear some pretty great syncopation in the break you're using so maybe i would just turn up the break a tiny bit (like a half decible maybe). your song is actually really great though so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

also i updated my track so i think i fixed the stuff you were talking about.

the cinema bell is two instances of massive. the first is one sine oscillator and one triangle oscillator an octave higher. the triangle osc is routed through phase modulation and ring mod. the second massive instance is two oscs again but this time is a saw and a sine (both are the same octave). this time the sine is routed though the ring mod. the effects on the patches give it that reverby sound (i used izotope vinyl and ableton's reverb. hope that helps, cheers

Oh thanks and i did a ghost kick once in awhile, ill add that too the snares also. I didnt know what it was really called and looked it up. Is this what you ment? http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/pro ... s-in-midi/. Very useful with the snares and not just keeping to the same four bar kick snare loop thanks man! Ill do the massive set now and see it how it goes. Ill try put in a song but have my two cents in, i dont want be that guy that sounds like everyone else really. Thanks bro!

@mt6l

I like the drop in your song. even though you like dissonance 2.15 and 2.30 doesn't sound right for my ears. it sounds like these two parts aren't in the same scale as the rest of the song

@eye-sic

drum sound fits the song and they're grooving. good work on the spacing and reverb. I'm not that much into deep stuff but I'm missing a bit of variety, different parts. it's a bit to repetitive imo...

@r3b
I was also listening to alot of drum & bass lately. mostly what pandora gave me, so nothing particular but after listening to your tune I'll somehow miss something in my drum section :(

It was also my first try at DnB and also my first try on reeses, but I don't think they turned out that bad. I was too lazy automating 3 or more filters to get their movement. So I was twiddling on the performer in massive for quit some time and did a lot of pitch bending. The Reese Thread in the Sound Design subforum is gold.. Guess this is what I'll study for my next reeses :)
