Hate Fascism? Hate EDL? Stand with others tomorrow in London
I'm heading up tomorrow to join the anti-fascist groups to counter the EDL rally. London pride march will be around the same area which might make it more interesting. Head down to join, stand against ignorance and hatred.
Re: Hate Fascism? Hate EDL? Stand with others tomorrow in Lo
EDL plan was to march to Woolwich. They've been banned by police, but rumours say they might still go down. You can link on FB for updates.

Who here wants to march in support of EDL's, and anyone's, freedom of speech and against the state's authoritarian and fascist regime against the right to protest?

I have seen, on more than one occasion, anti-fascist protests making more trouble than the EDL/BNP and certainly giving cause for the police to turn the attention on them rather than the marchers, which is pretty embarrassing to watch.
The best way to protest this sort of ignorance is to be truly ignorant back. Don't go. Petition and flyer the area the march is planned to take place in so there is no one there at the time. Don't give them any opposition. Turn them into rabid dogs in an empty room.

Yeah, bad ideas thrive in environments that give them attention. Any sort of non-institutionalized racism or bigotry is best left ignored rather than giving it a podium to be heard from. That's what they want anyway, attention. If you ignore them, you don't give them press and less of an audience to reach. That could be one less person googling 'EDL'.lloydnoise wrote:I have seen, on more than one occasion, anti-fascist protests making more trouble than the EDL/BNP and certainly giving cause for the police to turn the attention on them rather than the marchers, which is pretty embarrassing to watch.

Just because AF aren't there doesnt mean EDL aren't gonna look for trouble - it just means that those they pick on aren't as game as the antifash would be to fight back.

lol like they're not getting a fuckload of attention from the press and shit already...
Re: Hate Fascism? Hate EDL? Stand with others tomorrow in Lo
They are because people hate them and watch news with them on it because they LOVE to hate them.
If it doesn't pay to have them on air, they wouldn't be on air. And it pays because people watch it.

Yeah, innitiating violence because people voice an opinion doesn't sit well with me. Kind of fascist, isn't it?danrev wrote:

Cable Street is not comparable to 50 thugs turning up in a town centre with placards, don't be stupid.danrev wrote:

EDL want people to engage them, it's the fuel for their fire

hey muslims of woolwich, just grin and bear it. all those people who hate your guts marching through your home? just ignore them and they'll go away!
weak shit. Who said violence had to come into it anyway? You show your opposed to something by opposing it, not tutting at it from a distance.
a big part of democracy is showing up.

People exist that hate you. That's a society. The key to a peaceful society is accpeting that we'll all have to agree to disagree and let others speak their mind freely without innitiating force against others.danrev wrote:hey muslims of woolwich, just grin and bear it. all those people who hate your guts marching through your home? just ignore them and they'll go away!
You gave the Cable Street example, that was a violent opposition to the fascist march. They even obstructed the (public) roads, so they couldn't march. People threw shit at them and cops toodanrev wrote:weak shit. Who said violence had to come into it anyway? You show your opposed to something by opposing it, not tutting at it from a distance.
You care more about letting the world know about your bleeding heart than actually solving the problem. Gotcha.danrev wrote: a big part of democracy is showing up.

Yup and as a result the BUF were greatly damaged - due to the state (OH NO) taking note of the opposition and making some fairly reasonable legislation that political marches shouldnt be done in uniform, because violence happens. Personally I take it as a good thing that the BUF fell on their arse.
Why do you have such a problem with people turning up and saying 'We don't like this?' That's as much their right as it is the EDL.
edit: how the fuck does ignoring them 'solve the problem?'
Get your head out of the clouds, thats NEVER going to happen ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. Ever. Proper hippie shite. The key to a peaceful society is accpeting that we'll all have to agree to disagree and let others speak their mind freely without innitiating force against others.

violence does come into it when AF meets EDL, i've seen it first hand many times. EDL don't go around smashing stuff, they march and shout. They have every right to do that.danrev wrote:hey muslims of woolwich, just grin and bear it. all those people who hate your guts marching through your home? just ignore them and they'll go away!

The Anti-Fascist groups have every right to protest against these marches, but in my experience the AF contingent make more trouble in these situations and always come off looking worse (dressed in black running around the streets like guerillas).Christopher Hitchens (Hitch-22) wrote: In my first few months living in Washington D.C., I went to a Ku Klux Klan rally where the sheeted marchers were protected from furious counterdemonstrators by phalanxes of imperturbable black policemen who saw to it that the constitutional right of those who detested them were duly and good-humouredly upheld.

Violence is good when it supports your view, cool.danrev wrote:Yup and as a result the BUF were greatly damaged - due to the state (OH NO) taking note of the opposition and making some fairly reasonable legislation that political marches shouldnt be done in uniform, because violence happens. People don't have the right not to get offended, homeboy.
Basically, but then if you're going to have a government they should legislate in ways that help protect rights and people from violence and don't enforce violence. So even if people get upset and act out violently, they need to be held responsible for their violence. Not the protesters for protesting.danrev wrote:Get your head out of the clouds, thats NEVER going to happen ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. Ever. Proper hippie shite.
Because the EDL are trolls, and I don't want to feed the trolls. I hate fascism and racism. By showing up and listening to them and giving them attention, you giving them a platform to spread their message from. And they get heard by more people. Of course they can counter-protest if they like, that's their right. But they're just exacerbating the problem by doing it.danrev wrote:Why do you have such a problem with people turning up and saying 'We don't like this?' That's as much their right as it is the EDL.

Because when you ignore them, they fall on deaf ears. They want attention and you want to give it to them.Genevieve wrote:They are because people hate them and watch news with them on it because they LOVE to hate them.
