Thanks guys, very happy with the rusult.
@alphacat: nice, think i'll be getting that, thanks for the heads up!
@test recordings: it's from schaeffer, wasn't cheap, €80 incl. postage. Heard good things about frontpanels.de, which i'll try the next time I need one done.

Yeah that TheBeast site looks good but I'm in Asia right now, I'm sure that Japan must have something like it though...

Re: The DIY Synth/FX/Stuff thread ... =)
I'm pretty much hooked on DIY since I began with the SSL. Although I'm very happy it's finished, I'm a bit bummed as the building is half the fun. It's itching to start a new project.
I narrowed it down to a dual Calrec PQ1549 or a Stereo Filtrex for my next build. Unfortunately i'm not swimming in cash so I need read up on both projects and estimate the costs to see if one of these is feasible at this time, if any
My preference goes to the Calrec, so I'm hoping it won't be too expensive. Setting up a deadline of finishing one of these by the end of august. Will keep you guys posted on any progress I make

Unfortunately I cant help you with that, but I'm sure there must be something like it. You could head over to groupdiy and ask if people know of any good places.test recordings wrote:Yeah that TheBeast site looks good but I'm in Asia right now, I'm sure that Japan must have something like it though...

Good call, keep us in the loop. Sorry, i meant to try and cost up the filtrex, I reckon a stereo one would be around £300 all in, possibly less.
The filtrex is great but very specific, a nice EQ is def on my list, and much more usable.
I havent progressed too far, been busy, dads 70th, sons 3rd (!) ; although i did fix my DIY desk, if that counts
Bought a load of Oakley PCBS cheap second hand so full steam ahead on the modular.
Nice one Project EX.

Yeah both the calrec and filtrex would run me around €400. The filtrex being a bit cheaper. I chose the calrec cuz i'd rather have an eq as its more versatile than the filtrex. Both are pretty straight forward builds.
Congrats with your dad and son. Yeah that counts too
Nice, sounds like good deal

cool. yeah, i always like the photo blogs, never think to do it myself.
im getting stuck into the oakley modular, easy to build, forgotten one critical component for the psu, then thats done, then i can start properly, the adsr is nearly finished now too, going to stuff as much as I can, without doing another parts order, and then order the final (!) bits next month after i get paid again.

Nice to hear it's coming along nicely. Be sure to post some images/audio when it's finished. It's a badass project man, keep up the good work

cool, cheers man, will do
Re: The DIY Synth/FX/Stuff thread ... =)
The boards were finally delivered, as expected. Two boards per channel, low and high.

Began stuffing one the boards which is already almost done, except for a few caps which will need to be ordered. Same goed for the pots and switches. Doing the low side tomorrow.

Re: The DIY Synth/FX/Stuff thread ... =)
Little update. Stuffed all components I had available, but removed the 16V elco's as the voltage is to low for a 18V PSU. Will be making the PSU on some perf board in the weekend. Ordering new parts sometime next week.

Re: The DIY Synth/FX/Stuff thread ... =)
Some progress on the EQ. Stuffed the terminals and some more capacitors, still not all due to backorders and my own fault of ordering some of them for only 1 channel
Drilled holes for the stand-offs in between the trances of the board. Normaly the board would be hanging on the pots and switches mounted on board and the front panel. I'm going for off board pots and switches as don't like the original push buttons. These will be substituted by toggle switches. Going off board will give me more space on the front panel though. Doing the concept front panel layout/design next week. Backorders will take atleast 2 weeks, so building is on hold till I have the rest.
Now some pics

A close up

Finished PSU

Backside. Soldering could have been better
Messy at some places compared to the main boards.

Nice
My cameras have all died, sorry for lack. Still ploughing thru all the oakley bits, but have nearly finished a cool little distortion unit. Hope to have it finished and tested tonight!

Thanks
Unfortunate about the pics. Got any more info on the distortion? Is it from existing plans or did you design it yourself? Would love to hear some pre/post samples if you get around to it

Nice, looks like a little cool unit. It sounds really great based on the demos.
Looks like a cheap build compared to my previous and current projects. Definitely building one of these at some point.
The CV edition is a bit more appealing, but seems like the boards aren't out yet. Keeping an eye out
I'm thinking a standalone 1u rack unit, stereo with 1 set of controls using dual gang pots and dpdt switches to control both channels simultaneously.
Thanks for sharing paradigm
