Sub? No.
Sub harmonics? Perhaps a little bit.

Its not illegal, no.

but yeah, what SunkLo said.

You can find plugins (stereoizers) which will give you the option to mono a certain frequency band so you can have sub mono but a stereo top end.

Why are you asking, anyway ? It could lead to a better discussion if you elaborated.

I usually don't, mono feels/sounds more powerful to me and higher frequencies sound better wide IMO. I know that's the "general wisdom" and it's good to question it once you understand it...but it's what I prefer...but to add to this, I'm mixing with a lot of panned mono channels these days (does that make them not mono any more? Not sure myself, they begin life as mono though). Things sound cleaner to me and the mix actually sounds bigger/wider when only a choice few elements are stereo and even fewer are really wide. Just what my ears like though.

EDIT: I should give credit to Sharm for pointing me in the "mono is better" direction. :Q:

I also feel I get stronger mixes out of mono channels.

Even if its just the basis of a mix, getting leveling done in mono then working it into stereo, there is very little adjusting needed apart from perceived loudness which is usually from pads.

Do a test yourself.
Take a sine and make in stereo maybe with a chorus?
Ok, now if you are on ableton put a utility on the channel and hear your sine in stereo, then put width to 0%.

If your ears are good enough you'll understand by yourself what sounds best.

ofc the human ear can't perceive stereo if the sound is lower than around 150 hz, but you'll loose power indeed.

Sounds pretty bland to me, where's the basses at? Anyone can mix just a sub and some percussion.

Do you understand what mono is?

You can pan to get your stereo field. Use duplicate channels and have one left / right in different positions, its just the single channels themselves are mono.

I was talking about your tune bro. Sounds bland.. a bit empty. That's why you get a good mix, there's not many elements to mix. You get me?

I am not a relation of you?

Well, thanks for your constructive criticism.

Would you like the dry stems to get a better mix out of it or something of equal calibre? You can also give me one of your noisy (i'm guessing) tracks and we can see whether its of the hands of the mixer and not the sounds.. :W: .

Well, the pad is 3 instances of FM8, all running through an internal grain sampler in Reaktor (with a few other effects..) using FL's Patcher - that's pretty twisted to me? I can explain it to you, as I guess you got lost at grain sampler.

The rhythmic quality of the percussion cited for little traditional melody - while the first "drop" is a little repetitive, it is intended to be blended till the breakdown, where you'd bring in the bouncier 2nd - which I generally use it to go 4x4 in my sets.

Its called progression and a term called tension. Something a lot of modern "dubstep" doesn't have. While not perfect music - it is a track I am proud of and have received mostly positive responses from. Your comment just sounds bitter and not very constructive. 'bro'

It is also very disrespectful to out someone's music in the general view of everyone in a place where they have been indefinitely helpful and helped build a good community - Even though I have stopped being around as much because of the rush of children coming here.. Well at least with a childish mentality.

Go back to 4chan and get off Reddit - you're spoiling that too.

What? i'm not on reddit.

yeah i get what youre doing with your tune, i'm just saying.... its not a hard to mix type of track. try mixing drum and bass at 175 bpm with lots of layered drums and vocals and pads and basses, see my point? some types of music are easier to mix imo.

and yeah i do know what a grain sampler is - a granular synth or processor? i'm guessing you load samples and break them up into granules, like on alchemy? im not an idiot, i'm just not going to put up with bullshit snide comments from a tight knit bunch of elitist pricks. several people have had a pop at me since i registered, and i've told them all to fuck off.
