Girls and music production?

in pop music in USA in the 20s-30s females were mostly vocalists. There were like a handful of women players and a million men. It's lot like the trend in dance production. a lottt a lot like it. I just think historically that's pretty interesting and i'm trying to say i reckon biology has a huge role in how that develops as a trend

Getting as good as possible and mastering your instruments because YOU want to be the best for your own sake... the 'competition' in hip hop/dubstep has possibly led to the shit state its in now.

that last bit doesn't hold much water tbh. all different motives from different artists have contributed equally to the good and shit states of popular music. Competition fed the golden era of USA hip hop. Actually i'd say if you wanna talk about the shit state of certain areas of that music, lack of competition has been the driving force. Everyone's happy. West coast, east coast, ignorant, conscious, coke rappers, weed rappers, all of the rappers are happy. And a lot of those are the lyrics that are wack

Without competition grime would have been nowhere near as good. Most of the best grime ive heard is mcs slewing other mcs and producers

I have never really been into the grime drama.... i really think the music would have been just as good without.

Its not about being happy and positive, the guys can talk about problems and issues rather than "i am the best you are a tnuc" bullshit


The competition between biggie and 2pac definately wasn't a good thing.. they both died because of it = no more music.

The music might have been as good but it would be nowhere near as interesting and have far less emotion. The thing that makes grime so good (and to an extent some types of hip hop) is aggression and bravado (not all that makes it good). The Biggie 2pac drama made it all a lot more interesting and the music more passionate.

I am a fan of grime. I'm not against materialistic lyrics or anything. I can't tell what motivation an artist had for making a tune by listening to the tune.

The competition in grime made some great tunes and its was one of the reason why grime was successful but in my opinion the best stuff in grime is far away from competition, mainly the two Dizzee album are by the best things to have come from a grime MC. I accept that some of the songs on album were about hype but the most where about life and struggle.

And for me that's why dizzee rascal was the best mc/artist. So competition part of grime and was essential but grime at it's best wasn't about competition at all.
