I've previously expressed my dislike for the GTA franchise but this actually does look good.

Re: GTA V
looks really good, but I got too hyped for IV and then was hugely disappointed by the finished product.
gonna leave it a bit til the dust is settled, the price comes down and a bit of scrutiny is applied to the no doubt ridiculously overgenerous reviews (100% and described as a 'perfect game', I think GTAIV got in the magazine I bought, which is just plainly ridiculous) - already looking better though, seem to be addressing the issues I had with 4; nothing to do, nothing to buy, nothing to explore, just loads of boring grid roads with boring tall unenterable cardboard boxes filling in the spaces between them, shit missions (for the most part).
Plus I like the look of the planning and choice in those robbery missions, one of the things that most chafed with me in IV was how you just turned up at that kids house one day and he was like 'hey nico, heres the shotty, lets go rob the biggest bank in liberty city.'
Lots of variety in this already.

I know this is your opinion and I respect thats your decision but I can't believe how anyone for this brand can be left frustrated by a game with so much brilliance within it. IV for me is still the most impressive game i've ever played. I understand it may have let you down in regards to once you had completed it there wasnt much to do which Ill give you is the truth but why would you let that stop you from being excited by this game that looks so promising.danrev wrote:looks really good, but I got too hyped for IV and then was hugely disappointed by the finished product.

By the sounds of it its like your gonna buy the game and straight away look for any flaws as you walk do the street for that first time. The flaws your looking at are silly to even look into. Seeing guys give others guns so you can go rob a bank or some other shit. Ideally that is what the game is all about. The amount of shit these characters actually go through in any of the GTA games are fucking beyond reality. Its like you want there to be some CSI shit and the game is over and the character is jailed for the first person he is killed and game over. Then there would be fucking nothing to do...

Re: GTA V
I felt IV was a poor follow up to San Andreas. The whole thing felt more 'muted' and less immersive than SA, though that might be down to SA's feel and size than anything else.Moultz wrote:I can't believe how anyone for this brand can be left frustrated by a game with so much brilliance within it. Also, got pissed off in IV with the constant "Hello Nico, it's me fat cousin! We must bowl, yes?"
Re: GTA V
i think in short what I was trying to say was how can Rockstar have let you down that bad that you would want to boycott the next one (to begin with anyway) I just dont see much point in that..

Gotcha...yeah, I'm not dismissing it out of hand as someone did above. But I felt let down by IV when compared to SA, if that makes sense?Moultz wrote:i think in short what I was trying to say was how can Rockstar have let you down that bad that you would want to boycott the next one (to begin with anyway) I just dont see much point in that..

Re: GTA V
That does make sense but personally I compare IV to GTAIII, which is in the same setting, rather than San Andreas which was the previous game.wub wrote:I felt let down by IV when compared to SA, if that makes sense?
I got most of my enjoyment on III from the radio, not cheating, trying to get 5 stars and seeing how long I could survive. Awesome fun. Doing the exact same on IV is even more enjoyable. The story was lacklustre in both IMO.
I got most of my enjoyment on San Andreas from cheating a fuck-load, using flying cars, doing all types of crazy shit, customising cars, going completely ham, and passing the controller and spliffs around with mates. The story was more enjoyable. I think the same will be true with V.
IMO 9/11 is partly to blame for some of IV's shortcomings. It'd have been rather insensitive of Rockstar to include planes and more 'terror' in IV but if they had done it would have opened the way for a larger map and more shit to do. Rockstar is based in New York so I'd guess a lot of the people who worked on IV live in New York which resulted in the game being a bit 'muted' as you put it.
Re: GTA V
I must of turned GTA IV back on after finishing it a hell of a lot just to try and get that FBI Buffalo. Used to always get myself that instant high star rating from getting loose on the runway at the airport but I hardly ever came across the Buffalo. Think i got hold of it once but didnt last long.

Re: GTA V
Lol when did id say Id boycott anythIng or dismissed anything out of hand. I'm just not gonna buy it straight away like I did IV. It was a good game but after reading all the reviews saying this was as big a leap as 2 was to 3 I felt a bit of a mug for expecting too much of it.
Making it look like I'm taking some sort of principled stand. Just saying that the hype (which was HUGE) for IV outweighed my own enjoyment of the actual game. The bank robbing mission was the climax, it just had no build up (unlike similar missions in VC and SA), just seemed kinda silly in regards to the more serious story
RDR I approached with hardly any hype and that was definately the most fun I've had with a current gen r* game.

Really lookin' forward to GTA V. I just hope that the campaigns for each character are not short since there are 3 of them.

well its not going to be like 3 seperate stories, it will be 3 interwoven to form oneEliteLennon117 wrote:Really lookin' forward to GTA V. I just hope that the campaigns for each character are not short since there are 3 of them.

im not a fan of the 3 characters in one story really, destroys the feel of the character and playing, reckon i might buy it one day but for sure not on release day, who still buys games on release days?

Re: GTA V
wait so you'll be playin' as one character for a couple or so missions, then you'll play as another character to provide a different prospective of the mission? (I haven't read any news for this game other than skimming through this thread).gαммα wrote:well its not going to be like 3 seperate stories, it will be 3 interwoven to form oneEliteLennon117 wrote:Really lookin' forward to GTA V.
