Fitting Outboard into a Rack.

Post by Vanity » Tue Jul 09, 2013 6:52 pm

Hey guys, another outboard question. I'm wondering if there is anyway i can fit my Focusrite Saffire 6 (witch is half the size off a normal piece off gear) into a 4U Rack. Can't find any rack ears for it, wasn't sure if i could place a piece off wood into the rack and slide it on that? Also not sure if i could buy a empty 4U unit that i could fit the interface into (leaving half off it empty). It will only be for a month or so before i upgrade. Wondered if any has either accounted a problem like this or knows off a fix. Cheers in advance!

They make shelves that fit into rack units.

No worries. It took me a while to figure out all this shit when I got into using hardware : ) I'm not claiming to be an expert but you can always shoot me a PM w/ hardware questions.

Some 3rd party companies do make rack units that you can mount half-rack boxes in--usually the are item specific. For example Funk Logic makes a 1U rack frame that can hold two FMR half-rack units. Usually a search around sweetwater.com and eBay sorts me on what's available.
