Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
that video was posted in 2009. Pretty sure as of lately, on his last 2 albums especially, most of his bass is generated from massive. If you are as experienced as you say you are, you should be able to hear massives distinct sound in most of his basslines.

mthrfnk wrote: Kill The Noise uses Ableton. I've watched him multiple times using Massive and Ableton, during the mau5hax event someone asked how he made the Talk To Me basses, he said he used Massive and then proceeded to use Massive within Ableton to make some sounds for the track he helped with during mau5hax, as did Feed Me. I also watched him making a track with deadmau5 during a livestream recently (which contains a lot of signature growly whomps...) guess what he used Massive. Skrillex uses FM8 primarily as well as Massive and Operator.
Also that KTN video you posted is nearly 4 years old... he's moved on.
Many people (including my own efforts) have made decent growly basses in Massive.
I may have been unclear about what im saying. And i apologize. But in my defense, i know he uses ableton. I was simply stating that he does use reason to produce some of his bass. And im sure all of you know that reason can be rewired very easily.PillowFight wrote:that video was posted in 2009. The video may be old, but (and i am attempting to find it) i did see a video of him creating a modern bass in reason, with a bunch of thors and much automation. He does use reason, but arguably, so do i, and im sure many producers rewire it to their "main" DAW, becuase it is absolutely wonderful.
The fact that i say massive can't reach these capabilites, i won't stray from.
I never said that they DO NOT use massive, and of course i can hear when it is being used, in some distinct cases, but they do not use massive as a standalone, imo, because it doesn't provide enough. Does that make sense? I may be wrong by both of you.
But i can't sit here, and know what i know, and believe that I can pull up a Massive vst (i have worked in it for 2 years now) and get an easily modulated bassline with the full extent of these popular sounds.
You can take a good massive sound (I once downloaded a knife party patch) and i played it out, and i turned it into audio, and vocoded it, and applied heaps of external distortion, and yeah, it sounded great, but it was not the synth ALONE.
I also saw that live stream with Deadmau5 and KTN. :3 Deadmau5 was so dicky in it xD
Yeah i know for a fact skrilly uses massive as well. I saw a video about it.
I have no doubt every producer uses massive, guys.
Its just the way its used that im trying to present. It can do wonderous things, but it can do many more if it is taken to the next level of live processing, resampling, and lots of distorting. Frequency splitting as well.

I totally agree, I didn't realise that's what you were trying to get across.WolfCryOfficial wrote: Its just the way its used that im trying to present. I always further process Massive's stuff - with growls I'd normally use external filtering, EQ, distortion and reverb.
And yeah deadmau5 was a dick to KTN, he kinda has the right to be as he is so much more of a "techy" than many other producers, but during the stream he was just so pretentious at times.

Any recordings of this stream?mthrfnk wrote:I totally agree, I didn't realise that's what you were trying to get across.WolfCryOfficial wrote: Its just the way its used that im trying to present. I think there's a couple of parts of some of the streams on YouTube, no one ever seems to record and upload the whole sessions.blinkesko wrote:Any recordings of this stream?mthrfnk wrote:I totally agree, I didn't realise that's what you were trying to get across.WolfCryOfficial wrote: Its just the way its used that im trying to present. Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Killthenetwork I love your basses! Ive seen and herd a couple songs around here. Not bad stuff but i think you could take it up a notch if learn to resample them. Kill the noise and xkore often finish there basses and then resample it to get more clarity in them. Where did you learn to make most your growls?
Lately lots of people posted on youtube tuts that are pretty good explaining growls, neurofunk, and fm stuff. Did you use the performer? I think thats a key when making a big sound in massive.

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
i've learned how to make my growls mostly on my own in massive, what i have learn from tutorials is the EQ tricks with wow filter and all that. but i do use performers on a lot of stuff in massive for my growls because they just give it that extra boostR3b_Official wrote:Killthenetwork I love your basses! Oh cool! Was just curious because everyone expects making a nice growl to be hours of work but its pretty simple. I think ive got the key to some pretty heavy stuff but im in a creative slump but ill post something one of theses days. I did post on hear on sound cloud of a sorta remake of skrilex talking growl. Not the crapy yoy yoy stuff but the one from kill everyone i think? I used the acepella and got a good talking growl. This one youtuber is posting some serious stuff now.

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Hey guys, I need some advice on vowel movement, specifically more Wahow, woah, Euhhh, type of sounds.
I am able to make some gritty and big growls within massive + external processing and fx and jazz, but I can only seem to get a "Yah yah yah" sound
Case in point, you can hear them in my track clearly at 1:00
Soundcloud
Now indeed I am using WoW filter, but even with that off, the filtering within massive and EQing that I am doing gives a distinct Yah Yah. I want to know how to get more movement, stuff that you can hear in tracks by Must Die! and such.
Tips?

Record yourself saying the vowel movements you want then recreate the dips and boosts you see if you run it through a spectrum analyser and recreate it with EQ automationPeriKardium wrote:Hey guys, I need some advice on vowel movement, specifically more Wahow, woah, Euhhh, type of sounds.

Made this in Massive

put a mod talk osc with a digigrain II, both wavetables all the way to the right with a macro going to 9 o clock, both on bend plus set to 9 o clock. add ring mod onto the modern talking and set it up to the middle. as for your inserts, a P shaper with the dry wet set to about 11 o clock, and a bit crush all the way up. add chorus ensemble with the dry wet at 9 o clock and everything else at 10 o clock. add a dimension expander with the dry wet and size at 11 o clock. turn on your eq and boost the high and low a little. go into voicing and set unisono to 2, move the little slider to the right of it over by 3 small nudges. set the pitch bends up 12 and down -12. set yourr 4th envelopes attack between delete and trg zero reset. After that, if you have it, throw on a WOW filter.
Set it to vowel mode and band reject, set the vowels to I and U, in that order. put the resonance at 90, mix 100, overdrive all the way down.
Automate to one's satisfaction, and there you have a dirty growl bass. Don't forget to pitch bend it with the automation to help give it more vocalization.
If you need me too, I will make a video tutorial.

I make music, and I came here to discuss it. If you want to hit me up on skype, its jimbo_tulpa_slice, and my FB is Logan Patchwirk Winterhelt.
Also, why do people always put Skrillex and deadmau5 together and think it would be awesome, it wouldn't.
