Getting that footwork snare sound right

Post by thekuku » Sat Jul 06, 2013 10:50 am

Inb4 footwork snare? Surely you mean just an 808 snare?

Well kind of. Listen to 0:11. These snares sound 808 all right but processed too, they're less punchy, more saturated, sound like a whip urging the tune to move forward. Has aynone tried achieving that sound?

What does it take to make a one? Tape saturation, layering or is it a sample that I could easily download somewhere? Thank you :t:

MPC compression! Didn't think about that. Is there any way to emulate it? Probably not, if it would be easy people people wouldn't talk about MPC sound. I'll try playing with bit crushing and saturation then

^I agree. Maybe even layer with a soft, faded in hi hat.
You really can sample it though, that'd be easiest.

check out Toneboosters' bitcrusher for this sorta thing. Pretty sure that it was designed for sampler bitrate emulation (though I think more SP12 than MPC but it still may help)
