how to let these bass sound good after resampling

Post by KRONIKAL » Sat Jul 13, 2013 1:36 pm

Hi guys !

i follow the forum from a while and i ve learned so much great things here and now i' ve registered to take part of the discussions and to help as i can ;)

i' am 20 i produce with fl studio 8 and i love dubstep d'n'b techno house and electro

i' m italian so sorry if i make grammar error and shit !

But talking about production my problem today is about two basslines i' ve made that, in my opinion, sounds too flat.

the first one is a neuro/glitch hop beat i'm workin on right now that i can' t fit perfectly with the drums , and the bass in general is not pumping as i want and everytime i try layering,eq,filter it turn only shit. :(

the second is about a similar bass i ve made in a techno tune that is bassicaly the same of the glitch hop track but resampled

i want to understand how i can improve these two beats because atm i' m tottaly stucked on these ones and i can' go ahead with them :u: ,
i think i' ve to find a way to let them sound wider but without compromise the sub/baSS band

Did you use vocoders in them? I have a similar problem with my neurobass, mine lack a certain 'musicality' in their overal tone and it's in large part due to the vocoder in the mids.. You might want to lower the vocoder's output in your mix?

i ve used the vocodex i think is a output and eq problem...not the overall eq but the vocodex one i think.. now i m messing up with the multiband setting and tryng to fix it...but also a volume issue during the recording could be the problem

Yep try removing some of the harshest frequencies of the vocoder and turn its overal output down. That miiight help but I am not sure.

I think there may be a little too much reverb on the bass, it's making it sit further back in the mix when you want it upfront, you could try eqing the reverb if you have it hooked up through a send, or maybe even try using a delay insteaf to still give it the 'big' bassline sound while not making it sit as far back in the mix. also maybe possibly just add more sub, the sub sounds pretty weak. maybe check the eq like that guy said n all, like it sounds like you've already carved alot of notches out of the bass so maybe try to be a bit more subtle with the eq.

tbh i could be wrong it's hard to tell without looking at the project but try those out haha

yeah i know it s difficult to know the problem without knowing the step to get that sound but i' ll upload the entire recording i chopped to get the riff on the tracks if it may help !

bassically i' ve used the massive (eq,vocoder, wow, ohmicide and waves truverb for the ambience) i' ve recorded it via edison modulating cut off and some other param with the akay...then i ve putted the recorded file in the slicex and i ve chopped it and i ve added another eq , ohmicide(to get a like bass release and to not let it sound chopped) and another truverb...

i think my problem is about the presence of these two short reverb that may conflit each other and cutting the sub bass...could it be ?

if you are letting the sub through on your reverb than that definately could be the problem, you should always cut the sub out of any reverb sends you have. personally i'll start to roll it off around the 300Hz mark. hope it helps!

This question excites me too. Today I've figured out that it's good to control frequency after every resampling action. :i:
I'm not joking.

Ok problem partially solved equeing the bass again but it needs some work.
I would like to know if i can save a fx chain in fl studio and if how ?
I would use the same plugs and parameters in another channel and try to create other variation in the riff

Right click on the mixer channel you want to save/copy-over.

File > Save mixer track state as...

Then from there either:

1. Left click once and save it somewhere you can find it like the mixer presets. To be loaded into another channel. (Right-click > File > Browse states... > Drag and drop.)
or
2. Just drag and drop it onto the insert (mixer channel) you want it to be copied over to. Which is my preference.

P.S. I think they're both sounding pretty good so far, not quite professional, but pretty cool. So keep it up!

The y sounds good as you said but the i ve some problem enchanching the bass band because the bass has been already recorded with a certain reverb response in frequency so i would like to go back in the project and try to fix it , recreate the modulation with the akai and then record it again or maybe i using the common technique that i try to avoid all the time: split the frequency and start levelling the 3/6
