Good Drum Samples

I can't believe there is so much support for Vengeance and then suggesting processing them more...Vengeance is almost all over processed garbage IMO. Try the Gold Baby or Wave Alchemy freebies...

I can't stand the extremely resonant cymbals and snares that sound like something out of a science fiction film. who would ever use those in a song? EQ'ing out bad frequencies (ie where the resonance is) counts as "processing", right?

well yeah I mean I don't bother to use them very often because I just pick one of the good ones but I'm just pointing out why someone might need to process vengeance samples

If you can write a song using unprocessed samples and NOT processing any of them with having the mix down sound perfect, then you should be famous already. Even a perfect sounding sample usually has to be at least EQed in some way to fit your mix or your song, not to mention band splitting, compression, etc. Vengeance samples are excellent for this because they are already processed, so often take as little as one or two EQs and some light compression to fit into your mix nicely.

I guess my point is that I find it easier to do my own processing in the context of the song I'm working on rather than rely on or fix processing that was done outside the context of the song I'm working. Though I'm clearly not doing as much processing as you are, I can't even remember the last time I needed more than one EQ on a drum sound. I'm curious why you would band split one drum sample, to put FX on the high end or something like that?

I also suspect, PillowFight, that you and I are making very different kinds of music and I'm sure this has as much to do with our preferences as anything.

I made this post because I have done most of these, EQ'd vengeance and lurked around for some good samples, and have found some. But I'm still looking for better samples, and the Gold Baby samples suggestion was something new to me, as well as the Alchemy one. Thanks to those who have sent me something other than a message about addictive drums and vengeance.

Yeah our types of music are probably different, which is why the OP's topic is so confusing. What exactly is a good drum sample? To me and you good drum samples are completely different things so...yeah

That's preposterous, I actually plan on keeping involved with fans if I get them. I won't ignore them like everyone famous does. Not only that, but I also plan on doing tutorials when and if that day comes as well, because some people want to know how famous well known dubstep and EDM producers make their stuff.

Well, drum sounds are going to all follow the same basic trends, unless you completely pass the status quo, so there is an inherent level of genericness anyways.

For some alternatives to what have been mentioned in this thread, I'd recommend;

GoldBaby for some classic sounds, plus they have a decent free stuff section on their website.

If you're after the slightly more Vengeance leaning sound, Thomas Penton's stuff is a better bet IMO.

All of my this. The goldbaby samples are freaking amazing. I love vengeance samples, but they are so processed and most of are shit and you know what they say about polishing shit and that. Personally, I synthesize most of my kicks in reason because the kong drum synthesizers are amazing. All my snares are pretty much 808 based, just lots of snares and claps layered together from the odd 808 machine and trap/dirty south sample pack. I also like to synthesize some aspects of my snare, the more fine tuning pieces when I wan just a little more oomph in my some freq range that the samples I'm using just don't have. But if you wanna use vengeance samples, the clubsounds volumes. They still have a lot of processing, but they are a lot more "malleable" in my opinion. The vengeance dubstep pack is good too. Overused, but good.
