above posts are edited to incomprehension as far as I can tell because I cannot follow them....something seems misssing.

but to answer OPs question, a lot of people talk about Skream's Filth as being an extremely simple track, yet it is one of the catchiest dubstep tunes out there. I'd say a track becomes too simple when it's no longer good and is instead boring. If it's simple as fuck, but still good and catchy, than it isn't too simple. Yah feel meh?

I don't think we need to overcomplicate or make the tracks "complex". If a song is simple it's easier to enjoy.

I agree, but on the other hand there are some tracks that are oversimplified. Producers eschewing song arrangement and stripping the track back so it's practically just a drum beat and bassline. Then it becomes a race to the bottom :?

Yeah, I think people who like one over the other do so because that's the way they make music. Anything can be a thing of beauty, it matters HOW you do shit, not what you do. If you need 10 different layers of instrument for your lead melody to get something great out of it it's every bit of deserving as praise as a simple 1 synth lead.

i think from the evidence and lack of logic displayed in this thread we can all deduce that OP is a total retard

Srsly though, dubstep is easily danceable and has that 140 pulse. Have you ever been to a dubstep night, people dance all night to it not counting bro which just sounds like wank).

Pretty sure from re-reading the OP that "dubstep" = brostep and "ambient" = dubstep.

Worst answer ever
You can have only 4 to the floor kick playing and it'll be like honey for your ears, if you find a golden sample and use best analog processing units ;)

your basically saying exactly what he just said. And since when do the best analogue processing units guarantee better results than software?

All of this and this again. How are you supposed to answer a ridiculous opinion based question like "When does a track become "too simple""?

Isn't that the whole point of a production? It's too simple when you don't personally like your own track. You're supposed to be making music you want to hear, that is surely the reason you produce. If that is not the reason you produce then you should reassess why you actually make music.

For the record, I can stand about 8 bars of raw kick drum before I clock out. Doesn't matter if it's from some juicy 80s drum machine ran through an 1176 that Paula Abdul had an orgasm on.
