As I said, only going Friday & Saturday, heading back home Sunday (but only really wanted to see The Bug that day so no biggie).

Friday:

I reckon I should be out and about on the festival by around 18.00h

18.50h : Pelican
19.30h : Paul Woolford (maybe catch some Torche as well)
21.00h : Darkstar
22.15h : Fantastic Mr. Fox / AmenRa (depends on how FMF's set, if it's too mellow I'll bail)
23.30h : Ben UFO
00.45h : Four Tet
02.00h : Karenn (live)
03.00h : JETS (live)
04.00h : find where ever there's still decent music playing.

Saturday

16.00h : Bunzer0
17.15h : Kahn
18.30h : Loefah
20.00h : Sherwood & Pinch
21.00h : Digital Mystikz
22.50h : Dub fx
00.00h : Flying Lotus
01.15h : Joy Orbison
02.30h : Dusky
03.45h : Left0

See you there :)

Pretty much in the same boat, although I doubt I'll make it to the terrain at 18:00 on the friday.
But I was pleasantly surprised it was only 300km from home, thought it was further for some reason.

300? feels like less. And I've only traveled to Dour from Enschede, so that's another 100 haha.

back from dour!

1) it was extremely hot which means little sleep and tons of sweat. I'm absolutely knackered despite being there only three days this year as opposed to five normally. Work tomorrow is going to be a nightmare.

2) The vibes at this years edition were as great as ever for me. Many people came to party. Great fun was had.

Here's what I managed to see:

Paul Woolford was great start to the fest for me. He was playing in an all-techno line-up but found enough diversity to keep it interesting (playing a lot of house tunes). Then headed off to Darkstar. Their live performance was impeccable. It was dreamy/shoegaze style with loads of live elements. But because they added a lot of intro-outro-variation to each tune, they only managed to play about five which is a bit meagre. None of the older stuff (which makes sense of course) was used. Amplified Ease and Bed music were the highlights.
Fantastic Mr. Fox was the surprise of the day for me. Much heavier than expected in fact I thought it was BEN UFO playing for a while. Both artists were solid but Ben UFO's set was a bit too techno/acid oriented. Still, heavy stuf. Four Tet was a bit of a let down: too many people in the tent for an otherwise mediocre set (not playing his best tunes).

KARENN were the highlight of the first night without being much of a surprise. Then I found out JETS had already played at a different stage filling in for LFO, gutted to have missed them. Went to see SCNTST instead which was actually a pleasant surprise. Played some really class tunes by Nightslugs,Fade to mind etc.

Second day with pretty much no sleep because of the heat, back in the sweaty Red Bull dome for Bunzer0's 40th birthday set. Clean mixing and great selection as usual, focusing more on exposing smaller/newer artists. He always has a few hidden gems in his sets.
Kahn was good: all vinyl set and really had a bit of everything in it: deep dubstep, Bristol sound, grime... As expected Loefah's retrospective dubstep set proved to be the winner of the day. Classic after classic. He played an extra half an hour because Pinch and Sherwood fell late, doing a short but sweet jungle/Hardcore set!

Pinch & Sherwood brought a deep bass heavy and dubby set. Great seeing them do their thing live and the sound was enormous. But they should have been at the start of the line-up probably. DMZ brought the goods but I've seen them do better shows.

Then I wandered about a bit, staggering into Drumsound & Bassline Smith's set: rubbisch. Finished the night with dancing non-stop from 01.15 to 05.00am (in about the same spot too) to Joy O, Dusky & Huxley respectively. I think Dusky were the winners but huxley was also a pleasant surprise.

Another good year, gutted that I didn't see any bands. will have to make more of an effort next year.

I didn't see any of those except Karenn and Joy Bison :) Don't really remember Karenn that well, but in this case that probably
means it was awesome.

Suuns was the highlight for me.

*scratch that.. those guys at that stand selling hats were the best. Basically dropping hip-hop instrumentals and asking
people passing by to spit. One of the funniest things ever, think I have some video of it.

what a great edition that was.. stunning, probably my best dour yet.
thursday began in a great way with like garage rock and brass hip hop, good discoveries, then onto badbadnotgood who were great. charles bradley was perfect - vibes every single time he opens his mouth. doing the splits when you're 65 as well, wtf. calyx & teebee were great, shed as well, bonobo was okay. managed to see yeah yeah yeahs and enjoyed it. the complete wu-tang was another good one. ended the night with the skream & pokes all night long set which was frustrating. from 2am to 4:10am it was one of the best sets of the festival - house and disco stuff with mad vibwdes, people were mad into it, pokes got the whole crowd singing ring my bell. quality. then at 4am, switchup, skream plays filth, then rewinds it into antiwar dub, 10 minutes of classics which people were mad into. then out of nowhere it turned into skrillex, trap and moombahton... after that it just seemed random as fuck, playing alicia right after a skrillex tune for instance. the first part of the show was still really, really great.

second day - saw some cool/okay stuff in the afternoon (jacco gardner, odezenne ...), coely killed it, electric electric as well though the sound was terrible (no kick drums..). then dan deacon killed it as expected. darkstar was pure class. did pretty much the same as joeki afterwards - ben ufo, who i really enjoyed a lot, four tet who was good, then karenn for one of the best sets of the festival - as expected. then discovered as well that jets' timing had been changed, so i stayed to see cupp cave, then ended with surfing leons who played bare bait tunes, but it was fun to end the night.

saturday - damn. began chilling on the dub corner to the sounds of blackboard jungle and dub invaders in the sun, then straight to dubstep; bunzer0 was great, kahn was stellar (beginning felt proper cosmic, but the end of it was heavy). loefah probably played the best set of the festival. mad vibes. enjoyed pinch & sherwood a lot, and then it's probably useless to talk about dmz. watched jurassic 5 from the back of the last arena, was excellent; then joy o, dusky, huxley. probably enjoyed dusky the most as well.

sunday began just as saturday: dub corner, aba shanti i selecting tunes. then had a bit of a random program - some terrible stuff (watsky), some great gigs (and so i watch you from afar, THEE OH SEES). iam was good. saw mungo's hifi's set going along the nearby villages which was great. dj shadow was disappointing - the only bass it "covered" was trap. fortunately the bug made up for it, felt like apocalypse. fantastic gig, another one of my favourites. stayed on the same stage to end things up with panda dub who i thought was really great.
then we went back to the camping to do a bit of an afterparty, finding people destroying their tents and partying to hardcore techno on the ruins of it haha.

all in all - only slept 7 hours from wednesday till now, but this was probably my best dour. great atmosphere, though the weather was heavy. organization reacted well to the weather, and the staff was always nice. good music all throughout and a lot of great discoveries as well as expected winners. only downside was that my camping was located in front of the B camping's bar, meaning we got to hear the DJ spinning trance tunes whenever we were there. to the point that i had that avicii v nicky romero tune in my head everytime i went back to the camping as i kept on hearing it :corntard: was fun though i guess!
