There are a lot of these noob threads popping up lately, but at least a couple of them really seem into trying to learn whats going on. Not that it all hasn't been posted here plenty of times before (production bible?), but its nice to see that there are people out there who are trying to do it right. And then there everyone else. I guess thats one of the burdens of being on a site called "Dubstepforum.com." Oh well.
Off topic; I totally jacked my moms car keys to her mini van, if someone can post a tutorial of how to turn the car on and drive it id totally <3 u forever!
Now I see why that guy made the Preset sharing thread, so he can leech off other producer's sounds so he doesn't have to do all the hard work . Still going to post on that thread though, I like giving away presets so people can learn and then do it themselves.
But anyways:
HOLY SHIT!!!!!! have YOU guys heard RawFL from the FL studio cool stuff folder, that shit got some heavy ass reeses.
@ Wub & Fragments; For the most part i agree with what you guys are saying. Im not sure this is the "best" time for music right now, because there is that whole mentality that anyone can become a producer and get #money#fame#bitches#yolo. It sucks, because it really does devalue all of the hard work thats been put into getting mainstream recognition by some of these larger artist/djs/and producers. And now we have shit like dub turbo and wobble boss, it totally feeds into that "i should be spoon fed everything" mentality. Theres a lot of hard work that no one seems to want to do to get anywhere and they wonder why were dicks to them.
This day in age, which everything you could possibly imagine at your fingertips via the internet, people still act like they dont know how to do any amount of research. GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES! Pay for you're shit, then pay you're dues.
I understand how cracks can be useful when youre first starting out. I get it, this is an expensive hobby, you want to demo some shit, fine. No ones going to fault you (too much) for that. Once your figure out what you need though, fucking buy it. I did the same thing. Had a ton of cracks that my buddy gave me when i first started out, but then thought to myself i dont really enjoy using this stuff because i didn't earn it. I deleted them all, bought a couple synths i thought would be awesome (after extensive research) and never looked back. It really did give me a sense of pride in what im doing. If i spend a couple hundred $/£/€ on something your damn right im going to read the manual and do all the damn research of something that i possibly can.
For the record I'm not against helping people or against people who are new to the production game. But the spoon feeding attitude is what gets me. I'll happily help someone who is helping themselves all day long...doing the research, watching the videos, going away and finding out their own things then coming back and bringing some evidence of work they've done back with them.
But coming on, admitting you've been doing it for fuck all amount of time and expecting everything to be handed to you...I swear, most folk don't even use the Search function, or Google a lot of the time, is how it looks from where I'm sitting.
The lack of Google skills is what offends me most out of most things on the internet. "How do I use an EQ?" Yeah, you know what? You could have typed that phrase into the searchbox instead of a post form and gotten 229 million results instantly. It's not like you have to go downtown to the library, find a book amidst dozens of shelves and flip through till you find the right page. It literally tells you exactly what you want instantly. You'd think most young people would have a better grasp on modern technology.
Not to mention there's already instructional videos compiled to walk you step by step through doing things, either on youtube or in pirateable DVD form if you wanna go the quick and dirty route. It astounds me how helpless some people are.

Yea. I loose interest in long-distance collabs really, really easily. For me, it feels like I either need to be done with my part the first time I bounce or be done with my part the fist time I receive the stems. Which makes me sad as I've started collabs with people whose music and opinions I respect and then they've gone nowhere!

nah im fine with sending stems, i just would like the people i work with to respond to inboxes and such really kills the vibe when you send it to em and hear nothing back for a week
Field recordings from the hippie/pagan festival I just went to. Drums, crowds, ambience, drunken ramblings, etc. I'll have it up for a few days, eventually headed for the studio to be processed into a sample pack for a creative commons project I'm working on with some other folks. But ya'll are welcome to the raw material for as long as I have it up.
Apparently I mention rum several times during these recordings, makes sense as I drank like half a bottle of it that night... : ) enjoy officesteppers!
