Best software for beginners?

What do you all think of Maschine and Massive?

I was gonna use Reason but maybe I'll use Ableton instead...

It's OK, but to be fair I haven't yet given it a chance and delved into it too deep. It is pretty fun just to make drum beats in there though.

If you want reason but have used garageband before, Rewiring reason into logic might be worth looking into. Reasons synths and Fx are killer, but the workflow in logic is, at least it was for me, much faster and easier to get into - especially if you've used GarageBand before (I started with gb, too). New version of logic makes it even better!

It comes with Massive as standard, so technically yes.

I'm sure you could. You can do FX automation and the Maschine software should load any VSTs you want. Resampling is super easy. I don't see why not. I'd say the 10% is really just mixing, but honestly, you can do that too. It's just not "ideal" when compared with a full, modern DAW environment.

I just think it's funny, the idea that if you can't make a resampled bass then you can't make 90% of a song or whatever that guy said. That coming from the same guy who created an entire other thread lamenting about how music these days is all sound design and no arrangement.

How about arrangement AND sound design? Obviously reese bass can sound nice on its own, but if you can fit it in the song, instead of randomly pressing F/F#, it'll sound godlike.

And my question was more like can you arrange reese bass in maschine, not make it. Sorry for the confusion..

Mashine is NOT a step sequencer.

You can do a lot of complex things with it. Granted it might not be as easy as doing it in a daw, it can still be done. It can load any 3rd party vst (i think au also?). You can bounce any sound you make in it down to audio (or midi) just by dragging it to youre desktop. So, resampling is very simple.

Heres a quick screen shot of massive running through synthmaster as an effect. With some other stuff on there. Just to give you an idea that its not as limted as you might think.

I've been wondering when NI would just make a full DAW already.... I guess Machine is their version of a DAW. My prediction is that future versions of Machine will be a full fledged DAW with workflow and capabilities similar to other DAWs.

Been thinking the exact same thing, it wouldn't surprise me if the next update was full of all the missing DAW-features. But until then, I'll stick with Logic.

They have stated multiple times that they have no interest in making a Maschine into a daw. Or making any other daw for that matter. Of course, the way things are going, im sure by v 2.0 it will have a lot more feature making it more daw like. But at the end of the day, they really want to focus on using it as a controller without haveing to look at a screen.

Besides a very few minor updates, I have few complaints about Maschine and think they've struck a pretty great balance of limitations/options in the software.

^ Yo m8 I just wanted to say big ups on your soundcloud tunes, especially Sons of Ivaldi. Downloaded it the other day, been playing it in my car every time I go anywhere ever since. Real catchy. I love the part where the bassline has the delay added to it. Definitely best part of the song IMO. Percussion is great too.
