How do you gain stage your Reverb Sends?
I just can't get to hit the sweet spot of my reverb, It's always too low in level.
I haven't found anything about gain staging sends on the moneyshot thread.
So how does it work for you?

You just leave the fader at full then adjust the dry wet for each channel till it sounds right, there aren't any rules for otHashkey wrote:How do you gain stage your Reverb Sends?

Re: GainStaging Sends
Do you mean gain structuring?
Not really have any problems with that... Put a reverb 100procent wet on a send channel and send the amount of your elements that you want to the reverb bus... If the bus is too quiet, just put some kind of volume booster (don't know the daw u are using) after the reverb and crank it up a little!
Or what do you exactly mean?
Just some extra info that u can use
-Put a highpassed eq before your reverb signal.
-Sending the signal from the bus back to itself can give some nice textures if you find a sweet spot.
-If you did find this sweet spot, putting a eq on the bus and sweeping with a boost can also give some pretty nice feedback textures
-When you're experimenting with stuff like this.. Put a fucking limiter at the end of your chain for your ears sake.
-A long reverb buss with a sidechain compressor to the kick is pretty fucking awesome.
-Yeah, experiment with sending busses to each other.. Really awesome time spending!

Dude, this is the way I do, like you do .but like this you never get to hit the sweet spot of the reverb if it's analogically modeled.Brothulhu wrote:You just leave the fader at full then adjust the dry wet for each channel till it sounds right, there aren't any rules for otHashkey wrote:How do you gain stage your Reverb Sends?

Re: GainStaging Sends
You gave me a half Idea on how to do but it involves rising the volume before the reverb and then lowering it.Hashkey wrote:Dude, this is the way I do, like you do .but like this you never get to hit the sweet spot of the reverb if it's analogically modeled.Brothulhu wrote:You just leave the fader at full then adjust the dry wet for each channel till it sounds right, there aren't any rules for otHashkey wrote:How do you gain stage your Reverb Sends?

I'll try to explain myself better:
In ableton I just create a send bus and put a nice plate 250 reverb.
That reverb needs to be feeded to work how at is was designed with -18db. It has even internal meters.
So when you send from a track some signal to the reverb is very low.
I came up with an idea in your post, hmhmh First finding a nice balance between all the pieces of the kit sent to a reverb then putting a utility in front of the reverb to take it's in levels to around -18dbfs and then after the reverb lowering the out of it again.
Maybe some S/N ratio would come up, dunno.
Re: GainStaging Sends
Ableton 9 has reverb set on send A by default (with nice settings).
But I don't really like it for some reason. I use it only for drums/samples.
For my synths I use massive reverb... I also had and idea of putting Izotope Ozone reverb insted of ableton reverb.

Depth is a delusion, the deeper you look the less you see.

OP: If you're having trouble finding the 'sweet spot', perhaps try compression. I've read that some producers who record drums will compress their room mics heavily.

Re: GainStaging Sends
But you can still use the fader to adjust how loud the reverb bus is relative to the rest of the mix. Just like if you send all your drums to a "drums bus" you can set each individual drums volume and then adjust the group as a whole relative to the rest of the mix.
