High End Sounds

Hello people, I have a question / problem...

I'm currently working on a track, and I want some high end synths or beeps to make the mix sound catchy and more varied... But I'm having some problems with finding a nice high end synth that fits well with the heavier sounds, as well as not being too high pitched and noisy, I try to EQ the sounds to a point where they dont hurt my ears :> But I'm still having problems finding some sounds that fit. If anyone is familiar with this, do you think its the mix itself or that im just making / using the wrong kind of sounds?

When I use the heavy sounds, and try to add a semi-heavy high end synth to a mix, I always feel like the high end synth is a wet sound (even though I'm not making them that way) compared to the heavy sounds, that just doesn't fit in the mix.

Sorry for my bad choice of words, I'm not good at explaining things in english. But if anyone know what I mean, it would be cool if someone could reply

What exactly are you asking?

When you say "heavy" do you mean registering lower in the frequency spectrum? Likewise, when you say "high end" do you mean registering higher in the frequency spectrum?
I honestly read your post several times and I'm pretty clueless, sorry.

Hey, sorry for late reply... I knew it would be hard to understand, but when I say heavy sounds, I mean the lower frequency sounds, and the high end, I mean the higher frequency spectrum, yes.

I'm not sure if anyone else have had that problem, but I feel like none of the high frequency sounds fit with the lower ones. I feel like the high pitched / frequency sounds have lower volume, or have a kind of wetness to them that makes it sound horrible with the low frequency bass sounds and wobbles. I have tried several synths, but I don't seem to find the way.

I don't know if I'm using the wrong sounds, or if its just mixed wrong.. even though I have no problems with low- and mid range sounds.

I feel like this ain't a problem for anyone else, because I haven't seen anyone else ask this, so I guess I'm just really bad at that part.

I don't know how to explain it better. If people still don't understand the question, I can render out a clip of my WIP track as an example.

In the meantime, try low passing the lower frequency synths. Low frequencies can affect perceptions of higher pitched sounds, hence I always mix from bass upwards to prevent having to work backwards....

There's the example. I added a bit of the buildup at the start, but its a short clip.. But After the first short sound at the drop, the synth comes in, and I just feel like it doesn't fit very well with the lower frequency (the first, kind of crispy sound at the drop)

add more to it, fatten it up, layer a synth an octave under it. It's like playing 2 notes on a piano 2 octaves apart, it will sound fuller when you add a 3rd note between them

It's just layering and eq'ing, reverb and other effects, no magic to it

It's never about simply getting a sound to be more full because it'll never be in context on it's own. Think in terms of panorama, frequencies, harmonics, key, harmony and groove. Especially in terms of how things like panorama, harmony and timbre (frequencies/harmonics) change over time.

finding two patches that fit together for a good call and response isnt easy, but Turnpish is right you have to just dig and program and find something that fits in with the tune.

also, its a good idea (for me at least, is how we usually do it) to have the midi melody or hook preprogrammed so you can get a sense of the progression when cycling through tones to find something that fits.
