Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
That 1st track is definitely ready to transition into something awesome I felt it coming even though it wasn't there.
The second one is pretty tight too, but the midrange is kind of swallowed by reverb. I think if you took the reverb off of a few of the tracks it would sound way more powerful.
I could see both of those becoming something good, especially from someone creative.
I have this really weird thing that I made, I was bored so it was like a house song made dub style with samples from some other WIPs, I didn't like it at first but listening to it a little more I think I can turn it into something fuller with more variation. Looking for some feedback (I think my bass is all out of control though)

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@ mtl6: That clap is really muffled, maybe try some light sidechaining to let it punch through. There seems to be a lot of muddiness
in the lower bass area, may be that my speakers or just a mixing problem.
@ freakquency: I'd add some delay on that ambient chord pad, and some more reverb on the chord plucky sound. I also really like the drop, but seems a bit repetitive. The kick seems really weak in the higher frequencies, add some more 400 Hz. I'd also add in some plucks on top of the drop.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
thanks for the feedback, do you think it sounds muddy compared to the first one (also on my soundcloud) or just muddy in general?
Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
mtl6: Not bad, a little repetitive for my taste though. If you just added little things in here and there along the way, it could make the song much more interesting.
Coolschmid: This was really cool and had quite a feel to it! Some of those bass sounds are really interesting. All I would suggest is introducing something to stop it from sounding dry at points, like some sidechained white noise or something. But yeah, great work.
Lightshapers: This is actually really good! The drums especially. Really not much to be improved here. Basses at the drop also great. Awesome.
Here's a dubsteppy WIP I'm working on and would like to know what you guys think. Cheers

@Enjarcher: Seems really solid but that chord synth is not very present in there, It seems a bit muddy, try to bring it out a little more. Delay and maybe some reverb would carry it further.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
right. better late than never
mtl6 - nice retro synth vibe. bit cheesy for me personally if im honest. good stuff though.
freakquency - i like the drop. its a bit thin/needs more layers/filling up a bit during the breakdowns imo
cunningham - atmos/vibe is nice. not sure about the vocal. personal taste thing
schmid - snare needs beefing up.
enjarcher -
musically its good, all the chords etc, think maybe you could do with a couple of different wobbles, and maybe play with some different distortion. drums could also do with a more 'rock' feel, few more cymbals/bit more splashy. maybe layer a live sounding snare over that one

Here is mine:

@Coolschmid: Very well shaped sound - I love the bass sound and the slow pitched riser in the background. Very bouncy - very fun. Melody in the breakdown is nice and I like the low passed sound leading back toward the high energy section. Overall very nice! Needs the sounds to be EQ'd / mixed a little better but shows promise
@mtl6: Loving this!! So relaxing… Very nice sounds. Very very well mixed and sounds huge when cranked. Overall I really like this mate.. Very very nice
@LukeRaith - I really like the clap sound in the intro - nice a low fi. I like the garage feel… Reminds me a bit of Disclosure. Needs a lot more interest and direction in the tune. Kind of falls away a little at 2.20 or so but shows a lot of promise!
@SpectraFunk - Very nice intro. Interesting sounds making a very well thought out melody counterbalanced with the background melody. Loving the intro… These sounds are pretty epic mate, really well done on the mixing. Love the drop too. Solid tune.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Thanks for the feedback guys...
@Ascian: I like the ideas and the intro but imo the main bass is too noisy/distorted and doesn't have enough weight - it needs more power. The drums and strings go perfect with the vocal samples. The drop wow lol, wasn't expecting that, I'd lower and tighten your kick, sounds too boomy imo. Bring up the snares, smash the shit out of 200Hz (would suit this tune). The main sound are quite cool. It's almost industrial. I'd work on the mix first and foremost.
@Coolschmid: This is weird, but cool and the mix sounds nice. It's almost like the old techy stuff deadmau5 used to do. I like it but I think you need more structure and progression, keep things interesting. Also idk if it's just me but the kick seems to be panned right a little.
@enjarcher: Like the intro and arps, nice and clean, the drop could use a little more clarity and the supersaws need more bass - I know you have a sub but a low passed phased saw bass would help fatten the midrange. Some good ideas here, and with some added care on the mix it could sound pretty sweet. As for the main growly bass I'd suggest adding more crispness and maybe play with the stereo field (widen the high end).
This is a WIP remix I smashed out this weekend, still got vocals to chop into the intro/break - that's why they're bland/seem weak, there's a weird tempo change on the 2nd drop 138bpm > 128bpm

Just wanted to chime in, just saw this section of the forum. this is a big tune mate, kick drum seems a bit washed out but sounds and beats are great, will be a great tune when done and mixed down
Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Thanks mate - definitely having trouble with the mixdown on this one as there's so many tracks and layers but yeah, will keep at it and I hope people enjoy once it's finished!dca wrote:Just wanted to chime in, just saw this section of the forum. this is a big tune mate, kick drum seems a bit washed out but sounds and beats are great, will be a great tune when done and mixed down

@Mthrfnk Freaking always loved your stuff. Im not sure if its my monitors though but your snare seems to be almost over boosted in the 200hz area... like I said maybe its my monitors but it sounds very unnatural. Other than that its a great track as always,
@Ascian Your intro confused me. I was expecting something very different. Of course an intro should be a bit different but I feel like it put a more industrial sounding track in my head. The tune was more dancey when it dropped.
@Lightshapers Really nice track. Very mainstream sounding but its very good. Intro was a bit long but its a remix so im not sure if thats your problem or thats how the orginal track sounded.
Heres mine. Also, I didnt mean to skip any of you, some of your tracks just wouldnt load?

@Ascian Like the vocals, plus the atmosphere is great. that growly bass after the 'intro' is nice too. the drop isn't a style i'm a fan of but everything does flow well, nice melody
@spectrafunk drums are well mixed, plus the melody is pretty nice. everything works, snare build up is nice, plus that sweep is cool too. Really awesome drop, love the piano, the vocals really fit too
@Lightshapers Love the backing retroesque lead. The vocals imo are kind of cheesy, but it still works. the drop is NICE tho

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@ antman: That neuro bass thing is cool, but it feels really hollow. Like its all high frequencies with no mid. It sounds better when i can hear/feel the sub (ie. cranking the volume or wearing my beats). But still feels like theres not much weight in the mids.
@ mthrfnk: Overall sounds really good. The sidechained pad is a bit intense for my tastes. Feels like im listening to half temo trance
That temp change is nice. Really smooth imo. The only thing i dont like about this is around the 50second mark. Not sure if thats a misplaced snare or what. Otherwise, nice track.
@ ascian: This is neat. Creepy as fuck too. You did a good job with the vocals also. The first drop totally reminds me of some old NIN/industrial. Just loud and aggressive. I think its cool. Youre kick is totally lost in the mix though. Not sure if that was intended or not, but the main bass just drowns it out.
Heres a new one by me. Its another bro thingy. I figured my last two tracks were more mello so its time to crank up the aggro knob!

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Crimsonghost: Alien intro haha, First thing that came to mind was some really old space invaders like N64 game. Heavy drop man! It could be my headphones but I feel like it's lacking some power and the hi-hats are a wee-bit too loud. Your wobbles need to be more upfront imo. They're nice and really aggressive, just not as upfront as I would have them. Good work man! Hi hats are definitely too loud during the breakdown. I like the glitchyness of the second drop!
antman: If anyone's track isn't loading, click the link below the soundcloud widget! Nice old school vibes man! The vocal sample you got is a little over used in the tune, try changing it up a bit during the drop! add more shuffling hats man! Good work so far. Nice phat sub underlying the bassline nicely. I dont like the part where you run a lowpass filter through the tune though.
mthrfnk: Kick is a little too harsh coming out of my subwoofer, no big deal though. During the breakdown I feel like an accordion would fit wonderfully, idk why hahah. I think you should make the breakdown longer than that because that drop is epic my guy! I feel like a longer breakdown would help make waiting for the drop soo much more rewarding. Nice vocal usage you got there! Not sure about the pitching...bass guitar I think? whatever plays between the chords. I'd change it. I like the perc/hihat work you got there too!
I don't know what to say about this other than I SERIOUSLY worked my ass off on this. 84 hours 29 minutes project time. I need some serious feedback on this guys, I haven't let anyone hear it until it's finished and I get some feedback on it. (So DSF is first to listen I guess)

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@ dotcurrency: first, thanks for the words on my track. I keep getting feedback saying I need more in my hats, but I guess I went overboard
Anyway, I'm digging the fuck out of your track. I love that old school slap bass sound you have. Did you record that live or is it a synth/rompler? The sounds, from what I can tell seeing as I'm on my headphones ATM, are very good. But there's just a lack of dynamics in the song. I don't feel like there really any rise or drop. If you add some interludes you'll have a really great track.

@dotcurrency:
-nice use of white noise
-i like the toms a lot
-i like the sample at 2:06…is that 50 cent?
-Maybe the kick could be a bit beefier in the 30-70 hz range…could just be my monitors though
-The drums sound a bit loopy…maybe try varying them up a little bit more, especially the snare hits
-I like the extra background percussive instruments
@coolschmid:
-bass is nice and crunchy…did you use parallel compression on it?
-i think the baseline that comes in around 1:05 jumps around a bit too much…maybe try staying closer in your interval distances when you go from note to note
crimsonghost:
-i think your high end at the drop may be a little too loud…if you turn it down a bit, maybe the bass will be clearer
-the syncopation is dope
-consider making the rhythm of the of the high end secondary synth a bit more straight…perhaps it will help to emphasize the syncopation in the rest of the piece

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@ dca: That sub is so fucking huge and awesome in my AKGs. LOL insanity. :O
love it.
@ dotcurrency: Very funky. Kinda reminds me of some Feed Me stuff with all the synths/pads going on. The arpeggios and samples are really that kind of style too. Digging the song really well! Noticed I was nodding my head to the song throughout the song. Really cool. Some criticism could be that the kick sounds abit washed out (?). I know this kind of kick and snare in this kind of progressive/electro/house (with all bass/pads/arpeggios going on at the same time) is really hard to get right. It sounds like the kick is missing in the 50Hz range and also abit in some of the higher ranges, almost like some frequency was cut out? Love the song though. Great job!

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Here is the first main part of a new song I am working on. Any feedback is really super welcome!
Here is the first mix:
Soundcloud
Some questions:
- Is the intro too monotonous for you guys? I like simplistic and repeating stuff (Philip Glass, Wim Mertens, Michael Nyman, John Cage, etc) so I tend to do stuff that gets abit too repeating sometimes..
- During the main "drop" is the sub on the bass too heavy? I have a feeling it is and that I should focus more on the lower/mid-bass to make it sound better on small systems and for the song to not get too muddy.
