I'd want my kids to do what makes them happy without being dicks or hurting people. I think all of this "BE YOUR OWN PERSON, DON'T BE A FOLLOWER LOLOL" is all great until they actually face some of the shitty consequences it can have, and then what? At the end of the day, there's really nothing inherently great about being either 'your own person' or a 'sheep'. And generally speaking, sheep seem to be happier than individuals. So unless you're actually achieving great things with your individualism, you shouldn't put too much stock in it, unless ofc, that is what makes you happy.

to me its kind of pointless to try and impart wisdom to people (esp children) because the only way they can truly understand a given 'piece' of wisdom is by coming to a personal understanding of the concept through their experiences in life etc.. otherwise its just words..

that's how it has been with me anyway.. maybe it works differently for other people..

No, you're right. And that's why I'd just tell my kids to do things that make them happy without doing it at the expense of others. It's a simple idea that can mean different things to different people.

People often think that their 'wisdom' or 'knowledge', that they want to pass on is based on some great knowledge of themselves and life, that they learned by fixing mistakes. But that's only the mistakes that THEY'RE aware of. And who knows if they fixed those mistakes well? If they're even mistakes in the first place? The wisdom that they want to pass on may be a product of the mistakes that they aren't aware of as well. So I think it's really arrogant to assume that what you can pass on is of any value to anyone but you.

To me, wisdom is a word unintelligent people came up with when they got old to have something to fall back on when smarter, more intelligent younger people are more successful/knowledgable than they are. To feel some sort of 'authority' in places they don't have any. But every second, minute or hour, every fucking LIFETIME doesn't mean jackshit if you're not doing something with it.

In that case I guess the first one should be 'take other peoples 'wisdom' wisely' lol

You are both right though, I don't want him to take it all too literally, like a set of rules, sometimes learning the hard way is the best way to build character but I want something for him to be able to consider or smile about when he isn't feeling sure about himself or a situation knowing that I may have experienced the same uncertainty.

this exactly

spent too much time myself on "being different" and sorrounded by people who did the same thing and ended up realising it's not really what i want. so yeah, being different doesn't really mean being yourself. also, imo people who make a big deal out of not doing thing are dicks.

Never lend more than you can afford to lose. Even your closest friends will surprise you.
If you borrow money always make a point of paying it back early or at least on time. If you don't one day you might find you have no food, no money and no one willing to lend.

Always put on clean underwear.
Take pride in everything you do and success will come.
Don't worry about the dicks at school they will all end up in jail or be unable to get a job at Tesco.
Work hard at school, it can make or break your life.
knowledge is more powerful than money.
Every drug has negative effects on your life.
Friends who take class A drugs are no longer friends.
