Sitar Sample Packs?
Anyone know good sample packs with sitar sounds especially? And tabla?
Re: Sitar Sample Packs?
No sitar in it, but the pack "Percussionism" to be found on Loopmasters sorted me on tabla and the like. Did you check freesound?

Re: Sitar Sample Packs?
Don't know of any sitar packs... to be honest, I don't really consider it an instrument that lends itself well to sample packs (unless it was part of an extensively sampled VST - like East West does for classical stringed instruments).
When wanted to use sitar in a track, I found it easier to find a sitar player and have her play live on my track.

Next best thing: sample Ravi Shankar albums. He's done a fair few OSTs as well, these are often times easier to sample.

I found this ages ago and it's pretty decent for a free VST and has instruments similar to what you're looking for

Re: Sitar Sample Packs?
How legal is sampling actually? Like taking 5 seconds of, say, a sitar song from the 70s and re-using it?fragments wrote:Mad EP wrote:Don't know of any sitar packs... to be honest, I don't really consider it an instrument that lends itself well to sample packs (unless it was part of an extensively sampled VST - like East West does for classical stringed instruments).

Re: Sitar Sample Packs?
For a copyrighted song (as most commercially released records are).... technically it is not legal. The reality is, if you chop it up (don't just loop the 5 second chunk as-is), possibly repitch it, etc... you will probably be fine.Renewed wrote:How legal is sampling actually? There have been plenty of copyright / legality discussions that you can look up to prevent the thread from derailing too much.

Re: Sitar Sample Packs?
I found some good free kontakt patches of sitars and see African percussion, I'll find the link and post it. If you don't have Kontakt just use the samples
Re: Sitar Sample Packs?
That would be awesome! I don't have Kontakt yet, so samples would be nice!!Brothulhu wrote:I found some good free kontakt patches of sitars and see African percussion, I'll find the link and post it. If you don't have Kontakt just use the samples
Re: Sitar Sample Packs?
The samples come with the Kontakt patches so just use them instead of opening the patch and you can load em into any sampler - http://0on3.wordpress.com (there are 2 Sitar packs in there)
