Anybody familiar with LetsBeFriends?

Post by bmar22 » Wed Aug 07, 2013 12:55 am

Just curious if anyone knows anything about these guys? Age, production background ect? I just recently heard of them and their production is unbelievable. You can obviously tell their Knife Party influence but their song structure is also pretty cool and innovative (from what I've heard). They also seem to use a lot of counterpoint which isn't done alot in this day n age of dance music. really talented dudes.

Just sounds like generic complexbro to me, nothing groundbreaking/innovative going on here.

i disagree. ya they sonud pretty much exactly like Knife Party but that is impressive all in its own. They're synthesis/sound design, and mixes are so clean. I'd like to see anyone on this forum have a cleaner mix with that much going on. I know I'm not able to mix that well yet.

That Knife Party ripoff is pretty bad tbh, I hadn't heard that before. Although for complextro/bro shit their mixes are nicer than a lot of other stuff that gets posted on Dubstep.net.

I quite like this remix they did though:

This is shit.

I bet this was a spam post too

Also who cares if it's a "clean mix. It's entirely characterless and dynamically flat.

Shit tune + shit mix = shit
Good tune + shit mix = lo-fi/gritty
Shit tune + good mix = boring/sterile
Good tune + good mix = good

This would be an example of number three.

Because a lot of producers put production values ahead of original ideas when they're making their tunes.

I honestly think it's because a lot of producers just don't give a crap about the listener who wants to listen to music intellectually. If they can make these cookie-cutter tracks and people will pay to get wasted and dance to them then I guess that works for some people. And I guess if someone doesn't really want to be a "musician" in the creative sense of the word then I can't judge them for that...

That sort of attitude is what has put electronic music into this downward spiral, with the rise of identikit 'EDM' tracks taking over. Producers catering to the lowest common denominator to make bit of cash.

Thing is the production isn't even good as far as I'm concerned. Purely sounding "clean" isn't a sign that you've made a good sounding record

especially with this horrible brick walled dynamically flat sounding "EDM" tunes about a the moment that actually sound fucking abrasive.

Yeah man totally agree. Don't understand why anyone wouldn't like these guys.
