The Alternative Bass Thread

Post by R3b_Official » Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:45 am

Not sure what to really call this thread but it is a mixture of sounds. Mainly Processed basses (Mid Range) that has very vocalaly (not a growl) sounds and others very smooth and metallic sound to it.

I have spent DAYS and MANY hours trying to look and designing these sort of sounds but its all the same thing. Use this wavetable in massive, Its a square wave. No m8 its duckorgan table. Add a tight reverb and very fast delays.

I know these effects pretty well and have made many some progress but yet i come up with the same over the shelf sound.I have a very good understanding of synthesis of my plugins and can create a good reece and growl bass. Its in the same realm of processing and sound design but im stumped. On my soundcloud I have posted some attempts from a growl to other generic synths.Soundcloud

This last while on the forum and on the internet ive found very little and really no examples of people making these sounds besides the artist. Someone should have a close enough sound somewhere with a good explanation.

Im not in any way possible trying to copy or rip off these artists such as Datsik, excision, Sadhu, D-Jahsta, Requake, P0gman, and many others even though you cringe at some of the names ive listed.

Here are some previous post ive posted on and tried my take on these sounds even though there very different in there own ways.

This is very much appreciated and i know my self and many of users as well are trying to get these sounds :W: If you need examples ill post some and what ive think is going on with these sounds.

Thank you for reading and continue with your day brothers :Q:.

Can you a post a soundcloud of exactly what basses you'd like to learn?
II'm pretty sure you're talking about the metallic growl though, I'll post some attempts.

For the Hollow Bass thing, I've figured out a much less complicated way to do it.
Simple heavy FM Growl with Effectrix's Reverse and Tonal Delay.

I'm still working on the Datsik one.

Nailed the two basses, this is a really really complex bass patch though.

The actually bass part im guessing the fm part is spot on but the deep, raspy gritty parts not there. I havent tried anything in fm8 lately. What did you do for the patch? Ill try and an attempt at different sampling technics.

Edit* Your sound is super close to excisions! Deep and Vowely like his +1. Sounds exactly like this one in his song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUc3cNWv5g8 at 0:31

Looking for sound like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL4y8OJSRTw very bright and smooth. 0:56

If i want a more of a deeper wobble, i wouldnt have any format filters in the patch since most of time it takes quiet a bit from the sound.

I tip i learned which is layering your sound with a nice deep square wave. Have your patch out and add a new track with operator and change the sine to square D. Makes a great difference. Learned it from neruofunk bass video, brings out the sound A LOT :6:

Yeah, I was modeling after the Excision bass, I'll try on the sample you posted.

The patch I have uses Sytrus and Harmor vocoded together with heavy Chorus/Distortion stacking on the mids. Mutiple resamples followed by the Effectrix thing I was talking about.

I figured out how to do the Xenomorph bass. Morph between a FM bass and a hollow bass and that's it.
