how to get that metallic sound like mantis/exude?
Hello i have been trying to get a nice metallic sound to some new heavy basses in massive like Mantis/exude/getter etc and i got it somewhat with the short delay trick but its not heavy enough, could anyone explain how to get it or maybe there is a better way to do the delay trick? what kinda Filters/FX are best in massive? just trying to get as many tips and info as i can so i can sit down and experiment more. thank you
here is a my first attempt at it, its not great but i used iz trash2 for the delay trick and i know it's a bit too much on the metallic noise

Holy shit that's fire bro
When making my reeses I like to use a flanger, it gets a bit metallic and I put a drum room reverb and BOOM, a mild amount of metallic-ness (If that's even a work) will come.

Re: how to get that metallic sound like mantis/exude?
did you try not sending the reese through the delay and instead layering it with something else that goes through the delay but resonates more with it?KillTheNetwork wrote:Hello i have been trying to get a nice metallic sound to some new heavy basses in massive like Mantis/exude/getter etc and i got it somewhat with the short delay trick but its not heavy enough, could anyone explain how to get it or maybe there is a better way to do the delay trick? what kinda Filters/FX are best in massive? just trying to get as many tips and info as i can so i can sit down and experiment more. thank you

I read some where that getter doesn't do any external process on his bases. I've made some basses like theres in massive and I found a good tutorial the other day for these sounds
Also check out the sound design page and look up d_jahsta sounds and also the alternative bass thread. I've posted some pretty good info. Been trying to make these sort of sound for weeks and I'm getting their.

Damn, sounds pretty intense. Comb filters will make some very metallic noise, and another option is to layer it with sounds you get running it through a granulizer. If you get the granulizer settings right it can produce those robot/transformer type sounds you hear in Excision and Datsik.

On the topic of a granulizer... What would be the best vst one out there right now? Ive been looking and cant find anything thats fits right in my production. Same goes to vocoders. I havent seen any good vst third party vocoders. Daw ones are good but i want a third party vocoder like vocodex and i cant get it because im on a shitty mac

Can't really help you there. I just use Fruity Granulizor. I also have a VST plugin called "Grains" but it doesn't work nearly as well.R3b_Official wrote:Jacob15728 wrote:Damn, sounds pretty intense. here is a slighty better go at it, made it a little more heavy while keeping the metallic sound

No problem man
Ive been trying to get these sort of sound for i guess the past month. How did you go around with the trash set? I havent messed around it a whole lot to master it such as my other plugins.
I think the key is
-nice patch
-slight tight room reverb
-simple delay with less than 15ms speed
-Effectrix plugin since it has some crazy fx
-distortion such as trash 2
-Lastly good eqing. I was working with old patches and add about 3 eqs and after some creative bends and twist the bass sounded much lively and less all over the place.
Here are a couple resent demo of sounds ive made and i think this sort of processing can be done for tons of other famous/masive sounds

To make metallic sound use Delay and High end reverb with high damp settings. The core of the effect comes from a very fast delay though, preferable done in parallel on another mix. Then mixing the dry/wet signals together.

I think there's a VST to AU wrapper, you can use it to load Vocodex into Live/Logic.

You can make this sort of bass using an FM synth and a multi band distortion.
Another way to achieve this metallic effect is with a resonator. It's basically a series of very short delays that you can tune to a specific pitch .

On this note, Macs and Windows PCs both use a different type of VST. A VST to AU wrapper won't help for a Windows VST because they aren't compatible with OS X.azuk wrote:R3b_Official wrote:Jacob15728 wrote:Damn, sounds pretty intense. No to be funny but I hear everyone saying this over and over but not giving a good description. I have yet to see anyone post an example and how it was made in fm such as fm8 and sytrus and then adding trash over it and not over killing the sound.

I think I've seen a tutorial on youtube about that. I think it was from DJVespers - might be wrong though...

That's true, Windows VST's are .dll which call upon specific Windows operations.TheOcularInvisible wrote:On this note, Macs and Windows PCs both use a different type of VST.
