Finished song/Label/Manager/What to do discussion

Hello guys
Have a question that can be divided in many others..

Artist without label/manager/etc:
What to do with a finished song?

1- Most people will say Soundcloud, youtube, twitter facebook and all that social way
2- If you make an EP , and then a demo and send it to a label maybe you get a contract?
3- Release and release until someday maybe an label/manager comes out?

Myself gave answers to my questions as you can see, but it is still confusing to me.
I haven't any knowledge on the "paper/labels/managers" side of music.
Wich way to take, for a beginner who just made a few songs, what is the right path to go?


When Is the right time to approach a label or the label will approach you?
Should you look for managers ( if your work level requires ) or they will find you?



Many questions, if you guys can suggest me one book, link, etc that you think could really help me, send it!

djs are the best people to send tunes to imo, if they want to play it out it means it's a good tune, hold on to that one. if not then keep working at it

I think that they're relevant questions, but they've already been answered elsewhere.

That's why is an opinion post....
I'm asking this because there are tons of things you can do with your tracks, but as anything in life there are better and worst ways to promote yourself as an artist, that's why im asking what should anybody do with a finished track, the methods that problably will benefit you...

its probably worth getting yourself a logo, press shot and manager toegther at this time....i know its expensive but shop around and you can prob get a decent deal
seems more professioanal and gets you seen in the dubstep world

Yeah my personal opinion and don't mind if i say any crazy shit please..
You can release tracks by it's own, maybe someday a label may appear everything can still happen, but a manager on the beggining of any artist career i think it's necessary to gain more then local attention, to get your papers organized, to contact label to see if they want you or not etc. I think a manager is essential however the question that remains is When to get a manager etc, when you are capable of do an entire EP? After some free released tracks? Wait for the manager and then label or what?

Sorry if it is too confusing but like i said, i have no knowledge on this area, if you guys don't wanna answer, don't answer.

send it to djs that play music similar to your style, don't wait for them answering, feel lucky when you hear your tune on the radio someday, go on like this.

and don't talk about managements and logos etc.

IMO it's not worth releasing tunes on small labels, just keep Sending tunes to djs and producers, also don't give tunes away soon after making them, keep them locked for a while. Just my 2 cents anyway.

Release songs and remixes for free.
Send to promotional blogs and YouTube channels, ensuring they link back to your social sphere (make sure SoundCloud/Twitter/Facebook etc. all look remotely professional words/style wise). Also many DJ's and producers openly accept tracks via SoundCloud or email.
Build a fan base from there.

Having a fan base to start off with is worth more than anything to a label since you've already done a lot of work for them by creating yourself a market. This is what I'm slowly trying to do atm.

There's no harm in sending tracks to labels early on, I've done it and had some decent feedback from it, but like someone else mentioned small labels can be a waste of time and effort, I'd rather control the release of a track myself and promote it through social networks than have some small label attempt to distribute it half-heartedly. I'm not saying all small labels are bad - there's loads of great ones, but from personal experience I've had a couple of people contact me who run "labels" which were in fact a one man setup, with a piss poor fan base, using an online distributor to get onto places like iTunes or Beatport...

People obsessing over managers at the start of a "career" in production have the wrong aim in sight, if you're unable to manage yourself at that stage in terms of organisation and promotion you're not dedicated enough (imo).

Have a sufficient dose of self-criticism (don't upload everything you make) -> upload it to soundcloud -> make contact with DJs and send them tunes -> research for those info&label.com , demos&label.com e-mails and send them demos (just once per song!) but know the style of labels and don't send them something completely different -> be VERY patient
