I couple of sounds I'm trying to recreate...
Ever since I started trying to produce dubstep a few years ago, I've mostly been making dub/reggae influenced tracks, in the style of producers like Radikal Guru, but in the last year or so I've fallen in love with the 'dungeon' sound, and there are a few specific sounds that I've been struggling to recreate. If anybody could give me pointers on how to create these sounds, or whether they are soft synth presents, I'd be very grateful...
Sound #1
That sweeping/growling sound that so many dungeon producers use.
For example, between 1:39 and 1:42 of 'Tesla' by Perverse:
At 1:09, 1:16, 1:23 etc of 'Submerged' by Sleeper:
At 2:02 of 'The Risk' by Sleeper and District:
Sound #2:
The string/pad sound that Kryptic Minds use a lot in their album 'One Of Us'.
For example, the sound they use between 0:00 - 0:52 of the title track:
And between 0:28 - 0:54 of 'Organic':
Is this a soft synth preset, a sample or self created? Any pointers appreciated.
Thanks in advance

How long have you been producing for again?
First sound is a growl with a lowpass filter going up (or left to right in Massive).
Second is likely a preset in something like Nexus or Hypersonic2.

I make music, and I came here to discuss it. If you want to hit me up on skype, its jimbo_tulpa_slice, and my FB is Logan Patchwirk Winterhelt.
Also, why do people always put Skrillex and deadmau5 together and think it would be awesome, it wouldn't.

For the first sound, sweeping growl, there are several things that you can try.
1st thing you can try is find a vocal sample that fits rhythmically with your track. Then you can modulate the sample with a frequency modulater. After your carrier is modulated by the fm you can then vocode it. Using a filter is also advisable when using this technique. Automate accordingly.
2nd method you can try is simply creating the sound using NI massives oscillators and then using massives in house filters to achieve the sweeping effect. If you aren't sure how to automate in massive YouTube it. There are hundreds of tutorials on the subject.
Quick tip- I find that using a parametric eq and automating the low frequency to sweep across the spectrom is a great way to achieve important movement in the sound. This keeps the sound interesting. When using this method you will have to adjust some mid and high frequencies and also do some frequency cuts. You can find tutorials on this as well if you're having trouble.
Hope you can get the sound you desire.

So basically what I said, except more complicated, vague and unnecessary, right? Just use the low pass filter in Massive and automate it with one of the performers.Devilsindub wrote: 2nd method you can try is simply creating the sound using NI massives oscillators and then using massives in house filters to achieve the sweeping effect. Nope. Sorry, but not basically what you said. Simply using Massive is not enough to achieve a professional quality sound.

Yeah, but I assumed that he also put 8 instances of sound goodizer on the master channel, nitwit.Devilsindub wrote:Nope. Sorry, but not basically what you said. Simply using Massive is not enough to achieve a professional quality sound.

LOL!!! So you're assuming that he has no sound engineering knowledge and he's just maxing everything out. I sure hope he wouldn't put a bunch of soundgoodizers on the master channel. Sorry for talking about you like your a small child watching two adults ague over you by the way lol.
