Ez crew,

Heading to Berlin from the 1st - 5th September. Was wondering if any of you likely lads knew of anything good to see/do while I'm there. Already checked a few other threads on here, but as I'm not HUGELY into techno they weren't that helpful. I don't mind a bit of the ol' UHN TSS UHN TSS UHN TSS UHN TSS but I would like other options too.

Looking for suggestions on:

- Nice places to eat
- Nice clubs/music (preferably reggae, soul, dubstep [duh] or the deeper end of house, but not too fussed as long as the vibe is right)
- Nice parks/streets/places to chill and people watch
- Cultural stuff - art/museums/blahblahblah
- Record shops (I know about Hard Wax)

eatings not difficult, i'm vegetarian n even i was spoiled for choice, just walk around kreuzberg, theres loads of cheap little restaurants about.

kreuzberg park n Hasenheide park are really good, especially if you wanna find some weed

hardwax is the best, spacehalls worth a visit to, they have a lot more in there but you have to dig for longer to find the good shit.

even if your not into techno you should deffo try for berghain, it really does live up to the hype it just a ball ache getting in.

if you're after some reggae, Yaam's mena be the place to go - it's a beach bar on the river Spree at the end of the East Side Gallery. never been there for a gig but it seemed cool when i went there during the day. i think it's actually under threat atm cos they don't actually own the land

tresor's amazing if you fancy a bit of doofdoof techno, and there's an upstairs bit where they play more house/tech house. subland is really good too, saw dusk+blackdown and wen there last month, bit out of the way but probably worth it if there's a decent lineup. about:blank has some decent stuff too, think they have a dubstep night once a month

one thing me and my friends really enjoyed when we were there was just sitting outside off licenses and drinking, loads of them have tables and benches so you can sit outside and chill with 1euro beers all night. we were staying just off Kottbusser Damm in Kreuzberg/Neukoelln, that was really good for people watching n that

there's some ok record shops dotted randomly about the trendier areas, only name i can remember is space hall though

duno bout what museums and stuff are good though. Bernauer Strasse's pretty cool, they've got a section of the wall set up like it was in the 80s

jarm was good when i went and couldnt get into berghain (not actually sure on the spelling could be jaam or yaam or something idk, its by the wall anyway)- nice vibes and cheap drugs as well as some decent music- there was a poster for dusk and blackdown playing there later so check what nights are on

the wall is cool and so is the berggruen museum (again spelling lol) aswell as just wandering round the eastern half

yeah it was really fun, the music was basically bashment and daancehall stuff until about 3 then dub. plus there was a ridiculous amount of weed around

also if you can get a cheap return to hamburg on the train kochari- really cool place

I hear from more and more people coming back that Tresor sucks.. usually it means they didn't even go there, they
were just so happy they made it into Berghain... They all scared of a bit of real techno.

Do a free walking tour.
Ask the guy who's running the hostel / hotel concierge when they start, the one I did started at like 9am at the Brandenburg Gate.
They take a couple of hours and the tour guide only works for tips so they are usually really knowledgeable. It's a really good and quite cheap way of looking around the city and seeing all the history.

Think me and my gf paid €28 for ours, discounted/free entry into loads of places (all the big museums (if they're not free anyway)), restaurants, etc, and probably the best deal, unlimited train travel for 72 hours, which we absolutely rinsed. You can get them shipped to you in the UK, just have to go to one of several places where you can activate it, I think.

Museum Island is sick if you want a hardcore blast of sick museums in one go.

Hardwax is quality, bit out the way if you haven't been before, we went in November, it was pitch black, and there were no lights on in the stairwell leading up to it, my girlfriend was shitting herself until we heard some King Tubby tunes playing. When we came out, we got caught up in some communist group protesting. Bit interesting.

What's it like getting around? My girlfriend booked us a hostel in Mitte, but after a quick snoop it looks pretty touristy and OCeania-like...Not ideal. The main attraction according to their website is "BIG SCREEN TV'S WITH ALL THE LATEST ENGLISH FOOTBALL" ...Still, free breakfast, can't complain.

What's the U-Bahn saying? Is it as efficient as everything else in Germany? And perhaps more importantly...Is it CHEAP?

maybe it was because we were there on a saturday, but everything was so touristy and weird. the sign is fake, the guardpost is fake, the guards are fake, and to cap it off there's a mcdonalds just over the dividing line

i can definitely recommend that free walking tour that Riddles mentioned tho, the aussie dude who took us around knew a hell of a lot about the history of the city and of germany in general, and we got to loads of the major sights. it ends on museum island as well if you wanna get your kicks.

Yeah, I found this too - trams, trains, underground - all on lock, there's a very good reason for that though

Recommend the tv tower near Alexanderplatz, absolutely amazing view and there's a bar up top too

Also, you must see the Tiergarten right at the Brandenburg Gate, absolutely massive park, it's really nice. Stumbled across the Soviet War Memorial when we were walking about which was pretty amazing

Yeah, guess you're right about that, wasn't really thinking about the outside bit. Can definitely recommend the museum there though, and the memorial around the corner.

as for the u-bahn/s-bahn, it's kinda pricey i guess but it's so easy to get away without buying a ticket . you're fucked if you get caught though, 80euro fine or some shit

there's a nice bit of green by the altes musuem, gorgeous on a sunny day. mind the gypsies there though, just pretend you don't speak english and they'll leave you alone. Tiergarten is also nice. tresor was sick, didn't get into berghain sven u bastard
