String Libraries
I'm looking for some good strings libraries, particularly those for Violins and Violas, and maybe some Harps.
Anyone know of some good ones?

Re: String Libraries
When you say 'libraries', do you mean sample packs or like a Kontakt Library? There's loads of Kontakt string libraries out there, some of them do cost an arm and a leg but there are some free ones out there or cheap ones. ]
There's also ways to 'borrow' the expensive ones, ya get me?!

Re: String Libraries
Any format, except for East West, I really hate the play engine, and i got 1.5k to drop.
Re: String Libraries
Ableton orchestral packs... I'm sure they have the strings pack.
Depth is a delusion, the deeper you look the less you see.
Re: String Libraries
Quality-wise, the East West is among the best. I haven't used it, but by hearing the results - I don't know of many in the same league. (I'm judging it as a string player, myself)azuk wrote:Any format, except for East West, I really hate the play engine, and i got 1.5k to drop.
Will you be needing the strings ongoing?
If you don't like East West, and with that type of budget, I'd almost be of the mindset that you should hire a string quartet and a studio for a couple hours. If you went in prepared, knowing exactly what you wanted - you could get more than enough material for several ongoing projects.
** where are you based Azuk?

Re: String Libraries
Session strings by NI is boss. No harps but the strings are very realistic sounding.

I know East West is superior, but I really dislike the PLAY engine, I'd get those for sure other wise.Mad EP wrote:Quality-wise, the East West is among the best. I don't really want to hire a string quartet, although that would definitely be the better option. I can't write scores, and I don't like to mess around with audio (personal quirk).

Re: String Libraries
It's a damn shame that NI Action strings is only good for one thing. Going fast. But if you want some really energetic strings it's great. Fucking huge though, takes up a lot of space and is pretty hard on your CPU if you add too many.

Re: String Libraries
Spitfire Audio (the guys who make the Albion seres). They have a lot of different libraries at reasonable (still not dirt cheap) prices. They recently gave out a 1 octave demo library and I was really impressed with it.
Re: String Libraries
I've definitely been looking at some of Spitfire's libraries. Anyone take a look at 8dio?
