Compresion topic!

Post by cryptic » Fri Sep 14, 2007 11:45 am

Juts made a quick loop, not compressed or nothing.

Download it and see how you good you can master it and upload your results with your compressor settings!

Be good to see how people would go around this

FIXED LINK: http://www.mediafire.com/?dncxsomiz2g
(yousendit was being a tnuc)

Didn't need much compression imo, just a boost for the kick and snare. The toms/bongos/whatever had a hella rumble in them in the lo-mids, which I tried eq'ing, but ideally I'd rather have done this before the drums were submixed, as doing it once they were mixed meant I lost a bit of the snare while I was doing it.

Anyway here's the settings, using the Sonalksis bundle, EQ then Compression.

I'm no expert btw, feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong.

from the original to yours i can tell the difference, the highs sound much better. Gives it a crisper sounds. But the low ends feel like they have less energy! maybe you cut off too much of the low ends!

My verdict anyway  (im no engineer)

Ill upload mine soon!

Anyone else?

Cheers Auan, is that sonalksis eq free, i use to have it. It looks good.

Here's mine.
The EQ below is before the comp in the chain. There's another EQ after it, adding 3 dB to 50 hz and 1,5 to 100 hz.
I've no idea how nuts these settings can be but it does sound good to me.

EDIT : new screenshot
I compressed it a little bit more. 1st EQ comes before compressor and 2nd after.

Dc thats sounds heavy! the bass drum is very thumpy! sounds really punchy!

Big up on that

The bitrate is much bigger tho(1536 kbps), can you upload ther 1411 kbps wav, so i can put all these in sound forge and look @ the difference.

Cheers

Updated the link above.
Also I added few 0.1 dB on 1200, 2000 & 3000 hz of the 2nd EQ.

I have shite low-end monitoring at the moment, so I wouldn't disagree. I did roll off everything below 80Hz though, as if there was a sub going underneath it. Need to get my sub monitor back from maw's house.

And no it's not free, it is in fact very, very expensive. But best value for money in the hi-end FX plugs market imo. You get a Gate and a couple of more creative FX in the bundle (TBK 1 and 2). The gate's fairly useless if you're not recording anything live (which I'm not) but you'll love everything else. Better than taking out a bankloan for Waves and only using maybe a couple of the plugs.

Heres mine

Image

Juts boosted the low ends (65 +80) and top ends to give it crisper sound 10,000 ( about)

Compressed it

ratio 2.4 i think with a -5 thresold and +5 gain!

fast attack and release

check the difference here from original to compressed > http://media.putfile.com/demo-32-37

(bare in mind i have a ear infection and i cant hear anything out of my right ear)

heres mine on its own
