Metallic Shimmer Bass Patch
I've seen that the new flavor of the month bass patch is that metallic smooth wobble sound.
There are a couple ways to get this sound:
Using really short delay times: This produces a a comb-filtering effect, which give it a metallic quality.
Using convolution reverb: It's possible to create metallic sounds from using convolution reverb, this is the technique me and my m8 AzUK use.
Using FM Synthesis: This one is a bit harder to use then the others, and I haven't really nailed it down yet, but square modulating squares seems to be the most effective.
Using EQ modulation: I don't know how to create the metallic resonant peaks to create theses basses, but AzUK uses this method too, so you'll have to ask him.
That's most of what I know, so yeah.
Feel free to add in your own 2 c.

Re: Metallic Shimmer Bass Patch
Can you explain more about the convolution reverb technique please? It sounds interesting. How would I go about doing this?

It's very hard doing this sort of out board processing in any other daw than reason. For this sound you need reason, I got the demo version and will post a couple examples and tuts if I get it right. These sounds are do to reason waveforms and additive or fm synthesis. Scream 4 is a big part. I'm getting pretty close m8

I also found a tutorial on how this is done in reason and there are two labels with music around this style of bass. One is dubstar and the other bassclash? I can't remember but will make sure when I get home

I introduced the convolution reverb technique to him, so I can elaborate more than he can.PhotonOfficial wrote:Can you explain more about the convolution reverb technique please? It sounds interesting. How would I go about doing this?
It uses a combination of eq modulation and the convolution reverb, along with a deverb, play around with different settings.

Is this what you m8s want? All in massive, couldnt get anything in reason
close enough... good attempt in massive with out any processing.

Nah, we're not really looking for a patch or anything, just discussing this type of patch, because it seems like me annd Chaos are the only ones we know of that are really good at it.

Well post and example then. Ive come to the conclusion its done is reason subtractor. The only granular synth and is basically built for funky stuff.
Edite* found those soundlcoud i was talking about earlier.

lol wut
you want to use a subtractive synth for complex basses?

Re: Metallic Shimmer Bass Patch
You can use whatever synth or even a sample to make a bass. Some reeses are literally just processed samples, it depends on what synth you use and that yields a different sound. I was wrong about the subtractor being granular. Its was actually malestrom and you have use the index knob to get some wicked sounds.azuk wrote:lol wut

That doesnt sound really much, just reverb and the fast delays. For me it doesnt have enough power in it. Im getting sort of closer and better with my resampling stuff.azuk wrote:Soundcloud

Made this with just square waves and a env for the cutoff of a lowpass. Then some other effects and processing. Right sound but lost that jumpy feeling.

This is supposed to be layered with a reese and a sub, but I decided to just show the metallic layer.R3b_Official wrote:That doesnt sound really much, just reverb and the fast delays. Sounds maybe too wet with effects? I'd say just tone the effects down a bit, sounds cleaner.azuk wrote:Soundcloud

Yeah seems a bit too harsh to be layered.PhotonOfficial wrote:Sounds maybe too wet with effects? I'd say just tone the effects down a bit, sounds cleaner.azuk wrote:Soundcloud
