What to do when...

Post by Fletchur » Thu Sep 12, 2013 11:52 am

Running out of ideas on a track. The one I'm working on now, I started it pretty hot, had some ideas and got them down, but as the track fills out I'm at point where I'm just listening to it on loop but not adding much as I'm out of ideas!

Anyone got any advice on this?]

Thanks

produce 31 more loops, call it an album and be done with it?

seriously though: let it rest for a few weeks. listen to it again, and maybe you'll find something you like about it. sample that and bin the rest.

Map some interesting controls on your synths, drums and just live tweak that.
Maybe that works better for techno stuff, but you might get something out of it.

1. Stop producing for a moment.
2. Go sit in your room with no tv on.
3. Come back.
Depth is a delusion, the deeper you look the less you see.

I like to listen to music until I have a idea I'm excited about.
