Edited my post accordingly.

Also, check out http://www.klingbeil.com/spear/

it does additive resampling.

I made a "live" reese (no re-sampling) and messed around with harmor's detune function. Here's an flp (You need Chorus Box, Flanger Box, and Phaser Box tho). I sort of did a little Calyx & Teebee style track with the bass pauses.

Enjoy

I re-sampled Octoboy's preset and got this.

Here's a pretty sick sounding reese that I recently made. The preview also includes a kind of flutter bass that Joe Ford uses.

Speaking of prisms, this looks goddamn fine: http://www.svartling.net/2008/08/effect ... igner.html

The price is off the wall though, might as well buy Harmor.

I swear to god I am going to man up some day, dig in to the VST.NET library, and program my own live additive frequency shifter plugin.

Prism isn't the key to reese basses any more than distortion is

Although prism does add a nice quality if used in small amounts. Since it adds unharmonic elements (due to the shifting of frequencies away from the fundamental) you can add a nice raspy touch to the sound. Obviously if you just crank it up to the max the whole thing is just going sound crap.

This just in: there is no magic effect that will make your shitty detuned saws sound like noisia basses just by cranking up one knob.

I'm pretty sure he knows PRISM isn't the only thing. And yes large amounts will sound like shit. But when i saw this i did a little experimenting. If you apply Additive PRISM (Not multiplicative) in tiny amounts, almost untraceable amounts, and apply compression, then a little bit of distortion, still in unnoticeable amounts, and bounce your sample and do that 4-5 times, it actually makes for a delightful sounding reese.
Because the deharmonization of the frequencies, when used a lot makes a big mess, but when used in small quantities, especially on the 3rd or 4th bounce, starts to deharmonize not just the sound but the already deharmonized frequencies from the previous resamples. Then it gives you a nasty drill sound. Its way dope.

Thanks for the faith in my opinion everyone. I guess i'll just stop trying to contribute and give advice.
Here is what i made using the PRISM function in harmor. And PRISM function only.
In my external processing, i did the same thing, (manual PRISM) I split the sound into 5 bands. Then i applied deharmonization on each band.

They're simply correcting the way you came across as saying that this one function will turn something into an amazing reese, dont cry. (Pun very much intended)

Here is a new one, might have to click the link as it is private.
Soundcloud

This reese got pretty complicated, I went against everything I know and ended up using a massive list of effects and like 6 lanes of automation (edit: 8 lanes). :6:

I don't know if I will explain this one because of it's complexity, but at it's root it is a square FMd by a formant with a boomcomb (just downloaded and love it) vst effect on it with automation of the speed parameter, a lowpass with cutoff lfo speed automation and high res, a peak and a bandstop with cutoff automation, and lastly some flanging and stereo effects.

Oh and I did some frequency splitting with various waveshaping on separate bands and I used a detune plugin instead of detuning inside of the synth because I felt like it.

:corndance:

I think it is neat.

This WolfCry... a lot of your sound design posts come across as pure "this is how to do it" style posts, or at least follow that vein. You're posting good info but for some newer members or people who've just started they might take your posts as gospel and never try anything else - or even think what they're doing is wrong.

Not hating, just advising... :W:

not really a reese per se, but what u guys think of this one? :R:
originally was just a weird granular drum sample, can go into more detail if you guys want
a few of my other tunes have reese sounds 2 :)
