Is this effect compression, lfo, or envelope?

Pretty self explanatory. You can hear this in pretty much any house song but i thought this would be a good example. You can hear it start around 1:54. If you dont know the sound im talking about then go back to school.

I think its compression sidechained to the kick with more of a slow attack but i can never really get anything close to this so im not sure if im right or not.

I actually tried doing something similar to this track ages ago and got the best sound just drawing in a volume automation curve. :h:

Makes sense but im kinda surprised. I was almost certain it was compression

I tried to make some 7 lions type stuff a while ago, and volume automation worked the best for me too
