I don't know if this counts as a reese but it sounds so clean.

That's unreal. Tut?
Re: The Reese Bass Thread
So I made a thing:
https://soundcloud.com/squidbot/reese/s-vMkHi
The first sound has no added Unison. The second one does.
My question: Which should I build off of, why, and how?

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
That isn't my song but I've been hard at work making these reeses, If you go back a couple of pages I got some notes down from a MakO interview about how he does his basses.Squidbot wrote:That's unreal. Tut?
Re: The Reese Bass Thread
second one sounds better, more bass-y to me. you want to do more processing? it sounds pretty solid as it is, I don't see the point.Squidbot wrote:So I made a thing:

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
I want more out of it. I'm not going for a normal bass. I want it to sound like somebody barfing up chunks of brick because that seems like it would sound more interesting than what I currently have.dubunked wrote:second one sounds better, more bass-y to me. you want to do more processing? it sounds pretty solid as it is, I don't see the point.Squidbot wrote:So I made a thing:

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
My advice would be don't go for anything that remotely resembles vomit. Why do you need the dirtiest, ugliest sound possible? That sounds just fine. The musicality comes from the notes you play and the arrangements you use anyway.

Yeah, but I'm into stuff like that.dubunked wrote:My advice would be don't go for anything that remotely resembles vomit. Why do you need the dirtiest, ugliest sound possible? That sounds just fine. The musicality comes from the notes you play and the arrangements you use anyway.
I just need processing ideas. I'm seeking originality, so if I can make something that sounds sick and understand the process for myself, then I can warp the process to commit my own evil deeds. I personally (though I do enjoy normal basses like the one I have presented) prefer nasty or scary basses that sound like spaceships, nuclear reactors, disgusting things, and Godzilla & friends.

I made something u might find interesting if u want like a vomiting bass I guess, im on phone now tho so if u search my posts for 'dog puke' i think u should find it and if ure interested i can tell u about the processing when i get on my pcSquidbot wrote:Yeah, but I'm into stuff like that.dubunked wrote:My advice would be don't go for anything that remotely resembles vomit. Here's a clip with the various processing turned on gradually, and the numbers represent each step hereSquidbot wrote:Knowledge is power.blinkesko wrote:I made something u might find interesting if u want like a vomiting bass I guess, im on phone now tho so if u search my posts for 'dog puke' i think u should find it and if ure interested i can tell u about the processing when i get on my pcSquidbot wrote:Yeah, but I'm into stuff like that.dubunked wrote:My advice would be don't go for anything that remotely resembles vomit. 1) The original reese
2) Some camelphat to beef it up more and a wow filter that is set to comb, where the cutoff is automated

3) Equalizer taking out alot of the low end and a lil boost 2k and 10k (If the low end is not taken out here, it'll take over the whole sound after the next effects)

4) camelphat again, more distortion and a high res bandpass being automated

5)camelphat, this time with a notch filter being automated

6)camelphat, basically the same as 5, but some minor tweaks on the cutoff and resonance, and an eq taking out the harsh high end

This was all just some quick messing about really, so there's probably lots that can be improved and tweaked to make it sound better or nastier or whatever you prefer

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Think it should work with any comb/bandpass filters, you'll end up with a slightly different sound tho. And for the distortion you can use the free small version of camelphat, camelcrusher. I'd get camelphat tho if I were you, not a big fan of the wow filter tbh.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Once again blinkesko strikes with his awesome tuts.
I really like the end sound of the reese after all processing, but for a reason it's not what I struggle with.
Whevener i'm making a reese, the high end is always screechy, unpleasent even without distortion/processing.
But when I listen at what you posted, the first one (I assume un processed) is spot on, and even tho it could use some more movement, still enjoyable.
It's silly to ask about the easiests steps and not the complex processing, but could you explain how you made it ?
