Big Room House Melodies

Post by azuk » Mon Sep 23, 2013 4:20 am

I have trouble creating melodies like in Big Room House, it just sounds too complex to be used, and then when i remove stuff, it sounds really awkward.

Just make a simple melody from scratch don't make a complex one then try to strip it down. If I'm thinking of the right sound you should be looking at a basic pluck melody? Pretty simple just jam on your keyboard

Listen to some tracks. Pick a scale and just jam out with a metronome if needed. Keep it simple. Repeat some notes then add some variation. After a bit you will come up with something.

Download MIDI files of melodies from tunes you like and analyse them;

Start with a simple chord progression (look some up if you have to) then just muck around within the progression. Check the midi files and you're realize most of those melodies are pretty simple

To be honest, it's usually easier to start from a melody and harmonize it later. The hard part is getting a catchy melody, so you don't want to limit yourself there by already making it so it fits the chords you chose.

This!
If youre stuck. Just mess around with your midi keyboard till you find some notes that will fit together. Checking out other midi's will not harm indeed, just be sure that you're not copying the exact thing. People are critics nowdays and they will tell if your song sound like another song. But hey, welcome to EDM.
